30th Birthday Lunch/Dinner Santa Monica, Westwood or Long Beach

I've been gone from the area too long to be able to really help a friend looking for the following:

A restaurant for lunch or dinner for 10-15 people. Cost of $30-40 per person not including private dining room cost (private dining room not required.) Doesn't have to be family friendly but that would be nice. A restaurant where alcohol is not the focus, it can be there but not as the focus. Ambiance is important.

Once of the first places that came to mind was Beechwood Restaurant in Marina Del Rey.

i'd reserve the patio at shamshiri grill in westwood.

unless you have the very rare group of 10-15 people that will "order carefully," you will exceed your budget at beechwood. their starters are in the $10 range and entrees are in the upper teens and low $20s. by the time you add a non-alcoholic beverage, dessert, tax, tip, etc., you will be well over your budget at beechwood.
