Good food in Caledon

Fellow chowhounders......... we will be staying a few days with relatives in Caledon west ( Erin, , Alton, Belfountain, Hillsburgh area) this Labour Day weekend.
Would like to take them out for dinner one night. Any suggestions?
Looking for somewhere casual but good food. Also, any gems in the area for pizza, ice cream or anything new and good is helpful. We will be visiting them again in the fall so I am interested in what the area has to offer.. Someone told me there is a good bakery in Alton but then someone else told me it was just "ok" not great.
Oh and I know about the Mill in Alton ( forget the name). Went there for dinner with my husband about 7-8 years ago. It was not great. Has it improved? It is more upscale isn't it?

  1. Mono Cliffs In is my favourite in the area.

I definitely agree with this place. I've only been for lunch in the cellar but all of the food was fresh and excellent.

    2. This one? We went there last weekend, was pretty good.

The Bistro Riviere in downtown Erin has been getting some excellent reviews lately, and the chef there just won a bunch of local chef competitions, first and third in the appetizers and first in the dessert category. There is also the Cataract Inn in Alton, haven't been there in a few years, but was always one of the nicest around.

          Hmm!
Thanks for the tip. I will look into this place. Erin is a pretty town nearby so we will likely pass through and I will check it out.

      2. for pizza - very casual - 'airport pizza' is a must. best pepperoni ive ever had. on airport rd, in mono road just south of caledon east.

        1. Caledonn Inn is nice as well. Picturesque, and with options for laid-back pub fare to casual dining.

          1. Milcroft Inn and Cataract Inn are generally accepted as the best in the area. Full disclosure...I used to work as a waiter at the Cataract but that was 15+ years ago and since the owners fired me you can hardly claim that I'm playing favourites, lol. The Belfountain Inn used to be quite good but I have heard that it has had some struggles with service etc lately.

Good to know. I was wondering about the Belfountain Inn, passed by it a few times.
I have been to the Millcroft but wanted something more casual. Haven't been to the Cataract. I went to the Terra Cotta Inn, last summer. It has a nice patio for drinks but service and food not so great.

I am leaning toward the Mono Cliffs Inn.... though not sure exactly where it is, will find it!
Or the bistro in Erin. It is not too far from where we are staying, near Hillsburgh.

Mono Cliffs Inn in in Mono Centre - north of Orangeville, on Country Road 8 (east of Hwy 10).
