More info about Wakasan please

Bria Silbert Aug 29, 2009 10:07 AM

I read these boards fairly consistently and just recently noticed a buzz about the restaurant Wakasan. Can you tell me a bit more about it? Do you need reservations? Do they only serve the omakase dinners? Does anyone know if there a menu posting of the place (I saw that someone took a photograph of a drink menu perhaps - perhaps in Japanese?) Thanks for any information you can provide - I'm looking forward to exploring this place.

IMHO, it's always a good idea to read a pictured blog report of the place. Here's one:

I've been once. I have been trying to avoid shellfish and things like skate for health reasons and sure enough both were part of the Omakase that night.

Thanks to you both, I now have a complete "picture" of the place and will let you know what we have and how it was!

Wakasan features home-cooked Japanese cuisine. It is omakase only. Reservations are not a must, but if you walk in, expect a wait for a table on weekend nights during peak hours.

Seating: Mostly tables, but also a bar for the solo diner.

Cost: A great value, considering the cost of each meal.

Hours: They're open quite late. Lots of expat Japanese eat there (a good sign).

Menu: No menu online, as far as I know.... Besides, you are served whatever is fresh and in season at the time, so the menu varies anyways.

Location: On Westwood Blvd., south of Santa Monica Blvd.

      Hope this helps!
