Caravan Kabob in Gaithersburg Near Airpark
I just wanted to give a little shout-out to the kabob place that opened in an apparently cursed location on Rt. 124 near the airpark, called Caravan Kabob. Out here in the Laytonsville area, there is a dearth of restaurants offering home delivery, with the choices being Chinese (albeit not bad Chinese) and chain pizza (bad, bad, bad—bleh—and now they even charge to deliver their bad pizza! Never!). In the past, I have not much liked kabob, as the meats have been uniformly overcooked, dry and chewy. This has been my experience from the chains (e.g., Moby Dick) and independents (e.g., Silver Spoon, also near the airpark). Maybe I just didn’t look hard enough, but how many times should I beat myself over the head? In short, had it not been for the fact that this place delivered to my house, I might never have bothered to try it.
So when this place opened up in premises previously operated by an Indian restaurant, we decided to take a chance. At first, I was cautious, sticking to the Kofta Kabob (how can you go too wrong with ground beef?) After our first good experience, I expanded my horizons. Our experience has been uniformly good. The lamb kabobs in particular have had a nice char on the outside, while still being a decent pink on the inside, moist and flavorful. Even the chicken kabobs are juicy, tender and tasty. We also particularly like the pumpkin and spinach appetizers.
Maybe there are better kabob places (I am certainly no expert), but they don’t deliver to my house. In any case, this place is pretty darned good, and I invite others to patronize it. Unfortunately, restaurants in that location do not have much of a shelf-life. So, as a favor, I ask you to try this place so that I can continue to have at least one good choice besides Chinese for home delivery! (Yes, it is all about me.)
(Oh, and they have a 15%-off coupon on their website.)
