southport, ct - located at the train station. Their menu does change but I must say I've liked all the pastas I've had and veal dishes... actually I'm not sure I've ever had anything that wasn't great but we haven't been there for awhile. My husband is better at remembering what dishes we ate than I am so I will have him respond.

foley...have you found that the food quality has gone down since chef Maury left? We've been going to Paci for years and years, have always been big fans, but since he left it seems as the food just isn't as good...thoughts?

When did he leave? I honlestly have been there in the last 6 months.
And more importantly, where did he go????

It's gotta be at least a year since he left...I believe he went to a country club in Greenwich or Riverside. They brought back a different chef who was there years ago to work with Todd. I think his name is Paul...or John? I'm not sure...but since Maury left I feel the food has just been slipping.
I know they've been trying to change the menu up a bit more, but sadly have been replacing some of the really good dishes with things that I wouldn't necessarily go to a place like Paci for, like a tuna tartare.
Also, as I mentioned recently in a different thread, I've had a couple of appetizers lately that were so small it was almost silly...a grilled calamari dish over arugula was one body and one tentacle...nothing more...I couldn't figure out if they ran out and thought it would pass for a proper serving, but it was ridiculous. Then an app of figs wrapped in proscuitto with mascarpone cheese was 3 half pieces of a fig...3 bites...strange, especially next to the antipasti app which is overly generous in size.
We still go there around once a month, but the cons have been starting to outweigh the pros...so I hope they get back on track!

Salads all great. I love their veal chop milanese.

how long ago was the original chef there? I haven't been in a couple of years (2)?

Well Bob Patchen, the owner was the chef for a long time. Maury and Todd have both been there at least 13 years, working with him.
Paul (I think that's his name) was there early on, left and then came back about a year or so ago before Maury left. It's since Maury left that I feel the food has been slipping. The other piece of the puzzle is that Bob used to be in the kitchen all the time, and he isn't anymore. We still go there every 4-6 weeks...the food is very good...there have just been more misses for me in the last year or so.
