Birthday Date Recommendations
I need to take my girlfriend to a very nice restaurant for her birthday. She is a foodie, I eat when needed -- that means I need help! In Manhattan would be the best.
Relaxed fancy would be great - nothing suit-and-tie, but not a t-shirt affair. A fun atmosphere with really good food. Budget is not really an issue, but I suppose $75 per person would be about right.
You need to give us specifics. Cuisine preferences? Casual or fancy? Per person budget for food only (drinks, tax & tip additional)?

The usual suspects for me during birthdays are
- Scarpetta
- Perilla
- Degustation
- L'Artusi

I'll note that the 10-course tasting menu at Degustation - which I highly praise and recommend - is $75 before tax and tip, by itself. Add a bottle or a few glasses of wine to that, and you're talking over $100/person, easily.
kafkask, I get that you aren't picky in terms of food, but if you could name some restaurants your girlfriend has liked previously, that would help us a lot in recommending other places she's likely to enjoy. By the way, very few restaurants require a suit and tie anymore, and almost certainly nothing in your price range.

I went to apizz for the first time Weds night and loved it. Room is so sexy/romantic. Food great, generous portions, lovely wine list. Was a great experience all around.
