Please share your favorite lunch spots on (or around) Sawtelle in West LA! I'm thinking of trying Chabuya today, but would love to know others as well as I just started working in the area.

  1. Asahi Ramen! Always a wait, but definitely worth it. Try the Mabo (spicy) and the Ban Ban Ji.

There are much better ramen places than Asahi Ramen.

    2. You're lucky (or unlucky?) to work in such a target-rich environment, foodwise. My entry on the following thread should give you an idea of what's on Sawtelle. I like Chabuya. A lot.

      1. My favorite at Chabuya is garlic noodles with shrimp.

I like the zembu, with extra menma and extra egg...

        2. Absolutely would NOT recommend Asahi. It's possibly the most mediocre ramen in all of Los Angeles. I'd sooner drive to Mitsuwa and Santouka then walk across the street to Asahi.

Next door is a decent, though undistinguished Korean soon tofu place called Tofu-Ya. It'll do for what it is; don't expect mindblowing. And don't get seafood tofu there. Trust me on this one.

There are two good curry spots across from one another - Hurry Curry and Curry House. Personally, I find Hurry Curry to be the better of the two. They do a very consistently good chicken katsu curry that always satisfies, albeit I wish they were just $1-2 cheaper.

Furaibo gets mixed reviews from Chowhounders; some really like their Tebasaki chicken for its taste. Others find it too dry. I'd say they're both right - the chicken there can be dry at times but damn, it's tasty. Definitely stick to wings; you get breast meat and it's bound to disappoint.
