I am looking for some interesting restaurants in Vancouver for a group of 15 people. Half the group are from Europe and have traveled a great deal so I am looking for something that will be interesting. Probably someplace we can hang out for a while and have some drinks and get to know each other. Location probably downtown or West End as we wil be staying at Pan Pacific. I have read a great deal about Guu w/Garlic, but open to other suggestions. Mid price range($15-30 entree)Appreciate any suggestions.

Guu (all of them) might be too small for that group. If izakaya is the desired theme, then Hapa Izakaya will have room on the lounge (left) side of the restaurant.

Not sure if Belgian is interesting enough - might depend on where in Europe they're from, but Chambar could certainly accomodate you and you'd be able to stay around and drink for as long as you want. The atmosphere is fun, and the mussels/fries are perfect for sharing.

You can book the private lounge at Cobre. They have good Latin American (fusion-y?) tapas and drinks.

Is the Guu in gastown a bit bigger?

The Gastown Guu is bigger, but IIRC all the tables are 2-tops and 4-tops pushed together. It may work, though.

My friend was just there with a group of 25 with the tables pushed together. Guu was able to prepare a set menu for them.

Also, in my web browsing I saw pictures of someone who had their wedding reception at Guu (in Gastown). They had personalized menus!

Yes, the Guu in gastown is bigger. I saw a large party of about 15 seated at a long table so I think they may be able to accommodate your group if you call ahead. I really enjoyed my experience there and would def recommend for your group.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I plan to visit a few days before and after a cruise, meeting up with friends. So if we don't make Guu as a large group, then I will make sure to make it there sometime during the trip. The Europeans are from the UK and Swiss. I have been reading other postings and gotten some good ideas for other dining experiences. Any other ideas would still be greatly appreciated.
