I love having my own personal thread.
Spanish style Tripe is back on the Cafe 15 menu this week for the first time in over a year - this time with a white bean ragout. It is still the best downtown Oakland lunch dish I've come across in my 10 years here.
I got him to pose for a blurry I-Phone pic with his good friend Side of celery, fennel, celery root, and brussels sprouts.
It's not served over grilled bread this time around, but if you ask for it that way they'll do it for you (and you SHOULD ask for it that way).

The Tripe special is finally back on the menu this week. I've been bugging the chef whenever I've had the chance to talk to him about getting it back on the menu. He has said they don't sell enough of it to justify keeping it on.
I had it again today. Great, almost smoky flavored, tripe in a mild tomato broth with preserved lemon peel and rosemary. I think the dish worked better when they served it over a thick slice of grilled bread to help soak up the juice and balance the saltiness of the dish. Not sure why I didn't get bread today.
If enough people try it in the next couple of days maybe we can keep it on the regular rotating list of specials.
