Hi, I've heard there's a diner on Laurel Ave that has great blueberry pie -- does anyone know what place it could be? Is it Swinger's?

Not sure what you mean by "Laurel Ave." If you're talking about Laurel Canyon Blvd., the first place that comes to mind is Four 'n 20, a block south of Magnolia in Valley Village, which has a good selection of pies -- not every variety is available every day, so call to see when Blueberry will be available.

Swingers is on Laurel and Beverly-have never had their pies, but I know that they have some. What comes to my mind, though, is Dupars on Laurel Canyon and Ventura. Great pies.

DuPar's, of course! Not exactly on Laurel Canyon, though ...

Yes, schrutefarms. It's slightly east of Laurel Canyon on the south side of Ventura Blvd.

I've never had any of their pies, so I can't comment on that.

I've had their pie only at the Farmer's Market, and they've been a mixed bag. The one I was eager to try, the gooseberry (which I dearly love, and miss here where the fruit won't grow) was mostly sweet goo, on a par with those little ones we used to buy off the shelf for 15ยข (that is, those of us who were around 50+ years ago!). But a slice of cherry was tart and flavorful. I'd expect blueberry to be good, too.

Probably because the gooseberry filling is canned.

Of course it would be, since you can't grow'em here. Duhh!

Laurel Ave. is the north/south running street one block east of Crescent Heights (aka Laurel Canyon). It's starts just above Sunset and ends at 3rd St. Is this the Laurel Ave. you're talking about? If so, Shrutefarms is right when suggesting Swingers. It's got to be the only diner.

I'm sure you're right, now that I've been informed that Laurel Canyon Blvd isn't the only LA street named Laurel.

However, Swingers is just a few blocks from Du Par's -- at the Farmers' Market ... ???
