Sonoma: Fremont Diner - Sharilyn melon and mint popsicles

It is difficult to believe that they could top their wonderful Santa Rosa plum popsicles, but these are even more terrific.

These popsicles with the deepest, sweetest perfectly ripe melon taste are prettily flecked with pieces of fresh mint that give an additional refreshing element.

Also great are peanut butter pig cookies ... two buttery pig-shaped cookies with a filling of peanut butter. Nutterbutter nirvana.

They have nice shortening-based Gravenstein apple turnovers with a lovely thin crust beautifully browned and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. The apple filling is tart and tangy.

Only $3 will buy a ham and buscuit sandwich which has a grilled biscuit embracing a stack of thin-sliced ham.

There is fresh lemon verbena tea. I didn't have it but an Indian peach salad is on the menu.

  1. I finally made it to Fremont Diner today and will definitely be back! We were in a rush today, so just stopped for a quick hamburger and didn't have time to peruse the menu fully. It was fun to sit at the small counter and watch the handcut fries being cut while the chef cooked our meal. Looks like everything is done in a wonderful way - shakes being made on an old-fashioned mixer etc . . .
