  1. Have you been to Brocato's at I-4 & 50th?
Big sammiches and big delicious deviled crabs...
    Lots of good stuff...

I'm not saying they're 'the best', but you might really like the place!

huge subs. faves: meatball, Italian (meats), chicken parm, mojo pork, good onion rings. picadillo-stuffed potato is a meal in itself. the devil crabs are too big for taste, and they need a lot of hot sauce to taste any "devil" in it.

I was thinking about this place the other day, I really need to get out there. maybe I can do it for lunch friday when I'm on the way out of town...

        1. re: askdrtodd

We tried to go on a Sat and it was wayyyyyyyyyy too packed. I tried to go another time and they were closed that Sat so I think I am destined to never eat there considering it is across town for me.

          1. re: askdrtodd

Call ahead and get take out. you can walk right up in the take out line and bypass the others. You can always eat it there. Much easier. I did this just last week.

            1. re: askdrtodd

perfect to hit iof you're taking I-4 out of town. It is right next to the on ramp at 50th st. exit.

          2. re: Mild Bill

checked this place out yesterday and got an italian and a devil crab. i agree with andy there isn't much heat going on, but it was decent. the italian was really good, enjoyed it quite a bit. i really like the feel of the place and the blend between philly/ny subshop style and cuban ingredients is a cool idea.

i'm looking forward to going back and trying both the palomilla and roast pork subs

          3. try Delco's in Dunedin for the best philly cheese steaks. cash only. and I'm not from philly.

I am and will try it today. Thanks for the tip!

              1. re: annemarie07

There ya go.... I agree... And I AM from Philly...
All that stuff at Delco's (formerly LaSpada's) is real-deal...
Sandwich size is not huge, but acceptable... Especially for the price...
They're less expensive than I expected...

Amoroso's bread flown in--- a rack full of fresh Tastycakes!

When I leave that place I feel like I just cheated on my wife!

                1. re: Mild Bill

just picked up my Italian from Delco's. Awesome! When I walked in, all I saw were Phillies and Flyers pictures! I so miss Philly, but this helped. Thanks for the rec. I will be back!

                  1. re: DoubleBurger

glad this was good for you!

                  2. re: Mild Bill

is delco owned by the same people as la spada's was? i ate at la spada's but never delco. comparison?

                    1. re: andy huse

                      Only the name has changed....

                      1. re: Mild Bill

Delco's? sounds like an auto supply store.

                        1. re: Manderley

I know--- I always thought that...

I bet it's 'cause Philadelphia is near DELaware COunty...

                2. Pronto Italian Deli in Clearwater. Their bread is fresh and tastes great. Every once in awhile, I treat myself to an Italian sub from there.

                  1. Not a "sub" but probably one of the best sandwiches I have ever had is the "Tripleta" (Triple Meat) sandwich from Juanita's in Clearwater.

Roasted pork, ham and marinated steak. So good but you feel so bad after eating one ;-)

                    1. re: Little T.

I don't know much about Puerto Rican food...
I've been wanting to find a good place---- somewhere recommended---- and order too much...
I never had Pasteles or Mofongo or Alcapurrias...
This looks like a fun spot... Thanks T...

                      1. re: Mild Bill

                        Bill,

Have you been to Mi Pueblo? They really do a good job with all of their dishes. Most importantly, you have to try the jibarito if you have not already done so. The jibarito is a steak sandwich that uses tostones in place of bread. Make sure to ask for some ajo sauce on the side.

                        1. re: CFishman

                          No, not yet...
And I now remember you mentioning that Jibarito in the past, and me saying
"I want"... Thanks for the reminder...

Tostones always feel dry to me, so your 'x-tra sauce on da side' suggestion makes total sense---- and most likely, makes the dish...

                          1. re: Mild Bill

I went today. That sandwich is good.

I love that this place is sort of hidden, and off the beaten path. I can't wait to go try more P.R. specialties. I know little about P.R. food.

                            1. re: Old E.

They are very nice people who care about their food. Fortunately/Unfortunately, the stews, roast pork, morcilla, mofongo, pasteles and the jibarito are all good. Having lunch there always ends in a siesta.

                              1. re: CFishman

Let's go kick that place's butt...
Maybe some day in the first week of next month...

                                1. re: Mild Bill

Lunches are really tough for me at the moment, but we will get it done. If I could only eat like a normal person, I would be able to work in the afternoon.

                        2. re: Mild Bill

They have mofongo on the app menu at Red Mesa Cantina in downtown St. Pete and it was so good.

                      2. Today I was in Safety Harbor, and I took off for Delco's in Dunedin for lunch....
The cheese steak with mushrooms & onions was decadent, and I bought my wife a Meatball Sub with melted Mozzarella to go...

She just had it for dinner, room temp---- the whole thing, which is amazing for her...
I asked; "are you the happiest girl in Tampa" and surprised she said; 'I think I am!"

She was kinda freaked out how good it was....

                        Warning tho!
I always forget that Delco's is 'cash only'....
I had to walk across to Sweetbay to use the ATM...

I have always enjoyed Delco's/LaSpada's because my office is close enough that they will deliver to us. How much better can that be!

Also, don't forget that if you go to the Phillies stadium in Clearwater that Delco's has a stand there serving the steak subs.

                          2. JimmieJons and Subway step aside. Great Subs, in New Port Richey, is hands down the best place to get a sub, because well worth the $ quality and quantity wise. Plus, 2-4-1 subs everyday, and you can't lose. Outstanding Gyro sub served on a lovely soft pita like a gourmet sandwich, good Tsatziki! Now I see why they've been around for 20 years. http://www.greatsubsandmore.com/

                            1. try Felice Deli on US 19 near curlew near the tax collector for good italian hero sandwiches
