What are your recs near the Kimmel?

We generally leave the area for dining because we're been so let down but I would like to give it another try. We do stop in at Pastoral from time to time but I would really like a new place. Often we are dining with a well behaved child who eats everything/anything, so nothing too fancy or romantic would make sense for us.

If you like Korean, the new spot Miga at 15th & Walnut is very good. It's across the street from the new Max Brenner chocolate; your son may like that as well.

Here's a second vote for Estia. Great grilled fish and octopus in a lovely setting that is roomy and comfortable (particularly the booths). The food and service has never let me down there. Personally I like it a lot more than Kanella but maybe I went on an off night. Well behaved kids are fine at Estia too and like looking at the fresh fish display...

Thank you! I am definitely going to try Miga. I had not even heard about it - we live in the 'burbs and usually get Korean food out here. Out MO has been to hit the Vietnamese restaurants on Washington after the concerts but there were a few occasions last year that we wanted to stick closer to the Kimmel and we were pretty clueless. I read several reviews of Miga and it definitely seems like it is worth a try!

We are at the Kimmel Center very often.
Here are some of the places we like and return to:

Branzino, on 17th just north of Spruce. BYOB. Excellent Italian/Mediterranean.

Shiroi Hana, on 15th, Japanese - wide range on menu for non-sushi eaters

Valanni, on Spruce between 12th and 13th - Mediterranean, has small plates also

The Oyster House on Sansom, now that it is under the old management. Haven't been there since, but heard good things.

Mercato BYOB- we like the food, but it is so crowded and noisy that we gave up on it.

Kanella is a bit farther, but fine if it's good weather. We'll try it again, but my husband didn't care for it.

Estia - very lovely, prix-fixe, we go once in a while

Nineteen, Ten Arts, Capital Grille, are pricey for what we want to spend before a concert.

          Prime Rib has $35 prix-fixe, nice atmosphere - I think it's 17th St.

Thank you for all the details - I see two mentions for Valanni and the small plates should work really well for my son. I was once a big fan of the Oyster House and haven't been there in ages; sounds like it is time to revisit!

I've always had a good evening at Sotto Varalli. I've had a good meal at Valanni also.

Kanella is the best place near there, 10th and Spruce. Nineteen at the Bellevue is great too. Also nearby and good are Mercato and the Oyster House. Misso is a pretty good sushi place that's only a block away.

I forgot to mention that we usually go in for children's concerts on Sunday mornings so Kanella (we have never been) looks perfect because they are open for breakfast and lunch. Thank you for the recommendation!
