Santa Cruz - Good place to pick up picnic supplies

I'm headed to see Julius Caesar this Saturday at Shakespeare Santa Cruz, our first time at this venue, very excited! I love picnics, so I'm looking forward to enjoying some great food and wine under the stars. We are coming from San Francisco, but we are coming into Santa Cruz earlier in the day to spend some time at the Boardwalk (we are in our 30's, but you can't take the little boy out of my boyfriend).

When I picnic, I usually do a baguette, cheese, some good prosciutto or salami, fruit, and a salad or two, or maybe some well-made sandwiches. Can anyone recommend any stores with good deli/sandwich counters and a nice selection of cheese, produce, etc.? Or maybe a restaurant with particularly good take-out? Where do you go when packing a picnic?

I did a bit of research and have jotted down two stores which seem promising: Shoppers
Corner and Staff of Life. Any thoughts on either of these would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

New Leaf, especially the one on the Westside off Mission, has really great picnic stuff...food in general there is great.
If you want a good place to get take out, I recommend The River Cafe off River St by the Patagonia outlet. Excellent everything! Their sandwiches are huge, so I would share or get a half (which is still substantial).
Have fun and I hope whatever you dine on is spectacular!

      I would go with
Shopper's corner. Lots of bread choices, lox trim for great price, amazing wine selection, great cheese selection, etc, etc.
