MSP Best Carrot Cake

I am looking for your absolute favorite carrot cake in the MSP area. It must be a slice of homemade (not of the frozen variety) with pure cream cheese frosting (absolutely no whipped cream) cake. Any advise?

    An undead thread - ha-ha!

I guess a good carrot cake is worthy. For those willing to make a long posterior drive out west, Crow River Coffee Company is a destination. Maybe not so much in the winter, but the spandex outer-limits biking culture and Hog riders crowd might want to check it out.

This slice, made in house, towers at 6 inches or more. It's a double layer cake with pure cream cheese frosting separating the layers and a generous layer on top. It does have the ubiquitous orange/green carrot thingy on top. The cake itself is very moist and full of just right sized nuts for crunch, raisins, and a bite of cinnamon and nutmeg. The cream cheese speaks for itself with just a touch of sugar added in to the mix

Ames Farms Honey is about a mile from this place and they sell and use (I think) their products.

Just a place to keep in your back pocket if you're ever in the west metro.

OMD, thank you for resurrecting this thread, because I have known for years I should check out Crow River Coffee and haven't, even though I am through that way weekly in summer.
People say the coffee is excellent, too, FWIW. I think they roast their own on site. It's the scent of downtown Watertown.

+1 for Pizza Luce carrot cake. I haven't had it in years, but for me it's been the carrot cake by which all others are judged since the 90's.

Thank you for mentioning that it's in Watertown. I was so wrapped up in thinking about the carrot cake I didn't say where Crow River Coffee was located. Double Oops!

i had a very good slice of carrot cake at wilde roast very recently.

i've also had really awesome cc at french meadow, even though i think some of their stuff is overrated this cake is usually very good. haven't had it in over a year, maybe 2 though so perhaps it isn't consistently good anymore.

My favorite carrot cake is Wuollet Bakery's carrot cupcake. Rich carrot flavor with fantastic cream cheese frosting. I've also enjoyed P. J. Murphy's Bakery in Saint Paul. I'm going to have to disagree with turtlebella, I found French Meadow's carrot cake to be bland and dry. I've never been impressed with French Meadow but had expected it to be better than a Little Debbie product from Super America.... It wasn't.

The carrot cupcake mention reminds me that I also love Cupcake's carrot cupcake- one year I bought a bunch of them for my birthday cake! Plenty of icing for those that care...

I really like French Meadow's carrot cake. Rich and moist every time I've gotten it, and clearly made with high quality ingredients.

Not that this helps you, but I did just have an amazing carrot cake in Grand Marais- Lola's carrot cake-- divine! No raisins but otherwise scrumptious. If you are ever up there, you should make an effort to get some! ;)

I have enjoyed Pizza Luce's version, usually gotten at the downtown Mpls location. I like that it has pineapple and walnuts, not too sweet, no orange dyed carrots, good cream cheese icing, good size piece. Although last time I got some it was heavily dusted with nutmeg/cinnamon- I prefer it without that.

Luce's is pretty bland, in my opinion. Nothing to write home about. Honestly, your best bet is making it yourself, which I realize is not a helpful answer.

Ditto on Lola's in Grand Marais. That stuff is awesome.
