Founder's KY Barrel Stout

I was at a beer dinner at a local restaurant in Summerville SC and was given a bottle of Founder's KY Barrel Stout. It was delicious and had the faint taste and bouquet of bourbon. I have not been able to find it in any local stores. It was only at the restaurant for that beer dinner and there were only a few bottles there. Any suggestions on how to find would be appreciated.

Founders Kentucky Barrel Stout was just released here in the Mid-West (STL) at several craft brew houses and a few speciality beer stores. It's an incredibly smooth beer, not quite unlike Founders Breakfast Stout, but just richer. I filmed a KBS pour test just to show how creamy the head of this beer is.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaC3k1... Hope you find some!

The beer - originally called "Kentucky *Breakfast* Stout" and re-named simply "KBS" - came out in (according to my receipts) back in March and, despite the hefty price tag (I paid $19.99 a 4-pack, and many folks report higher), it sells out relatively quickly. (Some stores "pre-sell" their entire allotment and the beer doesn't even reach the shelves).

It's a limited, seasonal release and, while there may still be some on some shelf somewhere (I saw a bottle a few weeks back in NJ), you're best bet is to "wait'll next year". Otherwise, you can check the online beer retailers (be prepared to pay a lot for the beer and more for shipping IF they even still have it in stock) or the beer websites where folks trade beers.

In the meantime, there may still be Founder's Breakfast Stout on the shelves to tide you over and it will allow you to find a retailer who might be willing to let you know when KBS will be distributed next year and hold some for you.

It is extremely rare. I would call the restaurant and find out where/how they got it. alternately, check Founder's website and find the local distributor and call there. Congrats, you had one of the best beers around. glad to hear you enjoyed it.

Was it Bourbon Stout, Breakfast Stout or Kentucky Breakfast Stout? Believe it or not three different highly sought after beers from Founders

I thought the Founders "Bourbon Stout" was a draught-only product? Since the OP mentioned both "Kentucky" and "bottle" I assumed (below) it was the KBS. If not, sorry- and it's even rarer than the KBS.

Good point, that is draft only. It was probably KBS, which as you stated is pretty rare still.

Well, now I am confused. Maybe I had too many other beers before having this one. I know it had the word Ky as part of the name and it was bottled not draft. I will have to say it is one of the best beers I have ever had. Looking at the Founder's Website and looking at the labels and reading the descriptions it had to be KBS, I assumed incorrectly that the B stood for Barrel. It also looks like there is a distributor in Charlotte NC which is not too far away and this year it was only made in the month of March. Sounds like I need to be in Charlotte in March of 2010. Thanks for the info, Guys.
