There's a place across Chapman Avenue from Fullerton College that advertises Vienna Beef hotdogs and is called something like "Chicago Phil's" or "Chicago Tony's". Never eaten there, but you might check it out and report back.

The place of which you speak is "Chicago Harv's" in Fullerton. Good stuff, but I haven't been there in years.

Another place which probably has is (although I can't be sure as I have only been there once) is Mustard's in Los Alamitos on Katella.

Mustards is pretty good. From what I remember, they have the Vienna beef dogs, poppy seed buns, tomatoes, lettuce, celery salt and the fluorescent relish.

Gotta have the fluorescent relish!

Used to go to Chicago Harv's once every couple of months or so when my wife and I would go to the Fullerton Museum shows. But about a year ago, it seemed like something changed in the dog. I can't put my finger on it but the seasoning didn't seem as flavorful. They still pile on all the usual stuff with the relish, poppy seed bun, etc.

But I'm no dog expert by any means. So take that for what its worth.

There WAS a place named "Street Dogs" in Irvine University Center, but they have closed (and now there's Gelato place there). So, don't go by a Google search there.

But, I saw a sign for Haute Dogs in Irvine at the corner shopping center at Main St. and MacArthur Blvd.(where Kokomo's is.) Maybe they have some.

Sorry to be so vague and unknowing, but there just aren't many places for Vienna Beef Chicago dogs in OC.

There's a very good Italian sausage place in Newport Beach called Sabatino's. More spicy than Vienna.

And, there's always Jody Maroni's for a quick fix. In Orange and in the Irvine Spectrum (5 at the 405).

This is a subject that comes up often. There is a dearth of Vienna Beef hot dog joints in So Cal. The ones that I can recommend are not in the areas that you requested but they are the "real deal":

East Coast Hot Dogs - 19092 Beach Blvd., Suite X, Huntington Beach 714-378-0364. You can get Italian Beef here too.

Champs - Los Alamitos Blvd. North of the 405, South of Katella, next to Carl's Jr.

Chicago Harv's - Fullerton. Across from Fullerton College

Mustards. There are 2 of them:
3630 Katella Ave, Los Alamitos - (562) 598-1662
3387 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach - (562) 427-6435

I understand Portillo's is coming to Southern California in the spring. I don't know where though.

And you can always order Vienna Beef hot dog "kits" from www.loutogo.com. You can also get Lou Malnotti's pizza, Carsons ribs and an ever-growing assortment of Chicago foods. I just got their new catalog in the mail. A Vienna Beef hot dog for lunch with a Frango mint for dessert. YUMM!
