We are going to be in the Granby/Grand Lake area for a week in Sept. Is there anything to eat in the area? We may head to Boulder or Estes Park one day but would like to know if there is anything chow worthy in the area we are staying. Thanks for any help!

I would head down US 40 toward Tabernash and then east a couple of miles on County Road 283. At the end of the road is Devil's Thumb Ranch, and there you will find the Ranch House Restaurant. Outstanding cuisine a great views of the Indian Peaks.

This past winter we found a wonderful place to eat in the Grand Lake area. Caroline's Cuisine has burgers as well as fine dining items on the menu. Our meals were all excellent. The also have an interesting wine list, including specials on wine. http://www.carolinescuisine.com/

plenty of good places to eat in Winter Park, if you're willing to drive.

There are some great restaurants in the area. Try Brickhouse 40 or 7 Trails Grill in Granby. Caroline's Cuisine between Granby and Grand Lake is great, too.

If you are willing to go for an about 45 minute drive, you should not miss Tabernash Tavern. You need reservations - don't just try to drop in as it is always booked - but it is well worth it. Wonderful wine list, great starters (don't miss the meat and cheese plate with olives), and their trout with honey is amazing! (and I HATE fish if that tells you something). Also good bets in Grand Lake - for cheap tex mex, pancho & lefty's, and the Rapids is still pretty good although their new menu isn't as good as their old one. I second Claire's advice on Devil's Thumb (but then, I don't think I ever disgree with Claire - she is my dining guru!).
