Tadich is on fire

bobpantzer Aug 24, 2009 01:07 PM

SF.Eater.com is reporting that Tadich Grill has a fire and is closed. Perbacco, next door is still open. Anyone near there?

I can't be the only one who saw this thread title and thought it meant, "Tadich is really going above and beyond lately..." :-)

Yeah. That is what I first thought. I don't know what would surprise and distress me more ... an actual fire or Tadich suddently doing some blazing dishes. There are some places that need to remain the same.

Just to update, they will be open tommorrow.

Just to confirm: I walked by there this afternoon and they were definitely open. Apparently the initial $20K estimate was mostly ruined food (hard to damage a wood-burning stove with fire!). The most of the follow-up estimate was for the damage to the flue that caught fire, which is actually in the adjacent building.

I had dinner there on Friday night and saw no sign of fire. Just like old times. I've shared a few thoughts here:

It is true. I work in the building next door. It actually looked like our building (230 Cal) was on fire b/c of the way Tadich vents, but the SFFD assures me it is Tadich (240 Cal).

SF.Eater is now saying Tadich may reopen tomorrow--if true, can't have been much of a fire.

SFGate estimated $20,000 in damage. That's probably one stove.

$20,000 is probably mostly cleaning up the smoke and water damage.

ETA: New estimate is $160,000 -- apparently they tore out part of the kitchen ceiling fighting the fire.
