Chelsea Market has cardamom pods -- not sure if they have cardamom seeds. I also find their prices for spices to be better than most other places.

I am in agreement about their pricing. Cardamom as a spice isn't all that random. It's a common ingredient in desserts and Scandinavian cuisine. The bottle I'm currently using I purchased at Fairway, but could easily have also retrieved from Whole Foods and probably even Food Emporium (at least in its powdered form).

Penzeys in the market at Grand Central Station is good and convenient.

on the west side of 1st ave just below 6th st, there's a good place. it's below the two adjacent indian restaurants that are up a flight of stairs.

one of those, sigiri, is a sri lankan place, and a great chow spot. be sure to ask for sri-lankan spicy!!!

Second the East Village location. I buy many spicesand Madagascar peppercorns there. Have always been fresh and good prices too. I have the card someplace but can't seem to find it now that I need the name . .
