best fried chicken in honolulu

I'm looking for the best fried chicken in honolulu and looking for suggestions. Not too many that I can think of. Looking for real fried chicken, not katsu or cutlets. , Here are the suggestions I have so far: Zippys, Side Street Inn, Popeyes, KFC,HK's, St. Louis Drive Inn & Gulick Deli. Aloha!

You guys remember Chicken Alice's? That was the best fried chicken to me. I hear Alice is still cooking chicken but now at a Korean hostess bar somewhere in town.

As far as Wailana, don't forget to tell them to cook it well done!

Thanks for the memories leathersoul. I remember eating those great chicken wings at a couple of bars prior to her opening her small restaurant. Nice to hear she is still around.

LOVED chicken Alices. We used to take the chicken to the zoo for the concerts. NICE. :)

By coincidence I went to Nuuanu Okazuya for lunch today and they had "Alice Chicken!" Tasted the same, just not hot and fresh like Alice's used to be (but of course this is Okazu we're talking about). Anyway, the taste was good and I'll definitely be back again to take care of my Chicken Alice's kick.

Used to work a block away from chicken alice, people in the office ate there at least once a week. I loved it too, but somehow my body didn't. Went through me like greased lightning. Sure tasted good though.

Sad news. Penny's took the fried chicken off the menu. Not sure if this is only temporary. Sob!

KJ's Local Grindz is also pretty good.

I agree with Wailana Coffee House and also Penny's Drive Inn on Sand Island Access Rd (only open M-F) and I Love Country Cafe (Navy Exchange Food court location is better than Piikoi location and open to the public). Penny's is supposed to be the old Woolworth recipe and my favorite, but not always available when one wants chicken! I would rank Wailana 2nd and available 24 hours.

Please let us know how it goes and if you find any not on the list.

I like Fukuya and Gulick Deli.........

Also consider Wailana coffee shop in Waikiki, Fukuya's in Moiliili, Byrons at the airport (little red hen), and Anna Millers Pearlridge. Churches have a couple of outlets, including pearlridge uptown.

Don't know if any of them qualify as "best"
