Was in Montreal for 6 days this trip and had planned my meals accordingly. First Moishe's, one of my three favorite steaks in the world. It did not disappoint, perfect meal, except were in and out in an hour or so. They do have the most efficient kitchen l have ever encountered, maybe too efficient 200/2.. Next day Schwartz's, again faultless, in every respect 30/2. GF decided she wanted Italian the next, but a Monday, many closed, wound up at Lucca, per a number of posts, and was very good. Wild mushrooms, huge veal chop, perfect pasta. Staff were wonderful as it seems all restaurant people are in this town 220/2. Next night was the reason, foodwise, for this trip, Au Pied De Cochon. Had made the reservation before the plane tickets. Had been trying to get here for many years, but finally found a GF who would eat FAT. Showed up on time and was pleased by appearance of place. Was far brighter, cleaner, and joyous than expected. Within 10 minutes both Marc and Philippe had taken over, and we were treated like royalty. Ordered way, way too much, not their fault, but we wanted to try a lot. The plogue, the shephard's pie, the pudding chomeur, all too good to be true. Great time in every respect 275/2. Here is the interesting thing, had reservations at Toque! for the last night, then at PDC a guinea hen for 2 walked by. After a few minutes contemplation, Toque! was canceled , and another reservation was made on the spot for PDC for the next night. Hopefully Toque! will be there the next time. Returned to PDC for our last night, sat at the 'chef's spot', told Marc we were his and off he went. Drank a Tissot Savignan, hard to find out of France and as always, loved it. Fried squash blossoms, provencal plate with vegetables, tuna, and aoile, and the pintade, perfect. Followed by again pudding chomeur, and all intermingled with the staff and vodka shots at too many moments to count. These people know how to throw a party. Will do again any chance l get. 375/2. Great time, great weather, great people, great town.

However again, this has been the coldest, wettest summer on record. You lucked out in your timing!

Delucacheesemonger, I am very impressed with what you were able to put away at APDC! Between the food and the wine and the vodka shots, I think I would be dead.... and am I correct that 375/2 means you spent $375 for 2 people? OK, it takes two to tango, but it seems YOU and your GF really know how to throw a party!!! The APDC folk were just along for the ride.

Re the Tissot Savignan, I see you have interesting (and in my books, excellent) taste in wine. They have a pretty interesting selection at APDC, I like their wine list a lot. If you like interesting lists, and you are planning another trip to Montreal soon, you may be interested in perusing Carswell's list of mid to high-end places in the following thread :

You might find some really great places in this list. But I think you picked the most appropriate place for an all-out party (APDC) already.

Thanks for the report!

To my great joy (see my avatar), in the last two or three years Quebec has become a hot spot for the sometimes weird and often wonderful wines of the Jura. While the SAQ regularly carries several (vins jaunes, vins de paille, Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, ullaged and unullaged Savagnin -- including one from Tissot -- and even the occasional macvin), the real action is on the private import front, where you'll also find bottles of Trousseau and Poulsard and wines from nearly every producer worth knowing about. Friends from the Jura say the selection here far outstrips anything available in France outside the region. Not sure why this is but I ain't complainin'. BTW, Stéphane Tissot was in town last winter as part of the High Lights festival, promoting his wines and hosting a couple of very well-attended evenings at Pullman wine bar.

thanks for sharing your impressions of your tasting experiences at PDC, I have gone there with people from out of town more as part of the Montreal experience, I can see now it should be on my list for return visits to try out some of the other offerings, dont know how i missed the pudding chomeur, probably too full to look at dessert list.

Noted in some stores, have never seen Macvin out of France before, love it as well. Tissot is now big in US and prominent in France as has large production. People like Trousseau is seen as well. Clavelin rarely seen anywhere anymore. Hubert's grandfather designed the 'Clavelin' 62 ml. bottle used for Vin Jaune and Chateau-Chalon, the stubby beautiful one.
Tissot also did a meal at APDC when in town, as they told me. Friend of mine sat on cases and cases of savagnin a while ago and eventually sold me the entire 30 case lot. The grape due to the flor does not sell in USA at all.
