Orgasmic Diet anyone?

So this week I'm starting my first diet, and it's not to lose weight! Marrena Lindberg wrote this great book about this diet she's created that improves hormone flow and boosts sexual appetite and ability. Has anyone heard about it?

I'm really curious to find others using this (or similar) diets and how they go about it. I'm especially looking at what other women eat on this diet. It's hard for me to plan my grocery list around meals when I can't include starches and have no idea what I'll want to eat next Thursday!

      Well, the idea is to cut down on starchy carbs. It's been really hard because i love potatoes and rice, but I'm working on just cutting them down little by little. I love veggies, so I think I can make it ^-^

        I got that from your post. It sound like an Atkins type of diet. There's been plenty of discussion about it on these boards.

          I'm not sure what starchy carbs are, but you might want to consider avoiding JUST processed carbs. I have found that whole grains -- and I mean not even ground into flour -- work for me. Neither do regular potatoes. So farro, wheat berries, barley, brown rice, wild rice, sweet potatoes are fine. It's the refined stuff that has a really high glycemic index that are a problem.

      2. No point in my trying it - hubby's gone 3/4 of the year for work travel. That's enough "diet" for some of us ;-)

            From what I've read and found, the idea is to boost the development of good hormones like dopamine and "free testosterone" to help people with low libido or other sexual problems.

            For all I know, it might not work at all, but other than a few basic vitamins I dont have to buy anything special, and the diet change isn't a drastic one, just more fruits, veggies, and protein, along with the vitamins. So I'm willing to give it a try.
            If it doesn't work, at least I'll be eating better either way.

            1. Quinoa is a nice substitute for a carb because it's filling and I read it's a protein. Love the stuff!!

              1. digestion actually focuses your body's attention on the stomach and g.i. area. not, um, other bits. so skipping a meal may be a better technique than consuming a specific type of food.

                i started low-carb about 3 weeks ago though and i have never felt better. except for starches, i cook like i normally would and am just eating more veggies and a bit more protein. i don't plan out the week's menu in advance.

                1. Not knowing anything about your diet specifically, but if you are looking for recipes for low-carb eating in general, the things to google for are these:
                  South Beach Phase 1
                  Paleo diet
                  Primal diet

                  I've been reading a lot lately about primal eating, which also does not include any grains and hardly any starches. All the followers seem to be in heaven about the way they feel, but I have never heard anyone say that it has benefited them in 'that' way.

                    Thanks, I'll definitely look into the Primal stuff. I think the food is just to keep you healthy, while the vitamins and exercises involved work for the main thing, along with the things you leave out (like soy, which messes with hormone levels).

                      Ahh...soy messing with the hormones...no wonder China's population never really gets off the ground. Excuse me, I may have had a bit too much ginger- causes me to get snarky.

                        asians tend to eat fermented soy products, not crap like "soy milk", which is simply an industrial byproduct. that's the stuff that interferes with hormones, especially in women.

                          That's interesting! When we started catching on to soy products my mother read up on the dangers so we stopped. I still use soy sauce and miso, but I'm very cautious of too much tofu and "vegetarian meats" so I try to keep it to a minimal since the information out there is quite on the extremes of the spectrum.

                          This is good to know though so I can incorporate more tofus into my diet and fermented products.

                            False- soy milk is not an industrial byproduct, but rather, a step in the making of tofu. Simply ground dried soybeans and water. There are references to it's manufacture in Chinese archaeology from over two thousand years ago.

                            This is patently untrue. Asians eat a lot of soy in many different ways- fresh, cured, or fermented. I ate as much fresh tofu as miso when I was in Japan. There is a whole cuisine based around fresh tofu in China.

                            Take a close look at the scientific literature on this- I'm not sure that the complete picture of soy as a healthy product for consumption is as bankrupt as many people claim: over-consumption of any one source of nutrition can cause problems. A diet that replaces all forms of protein other than soy products is going to have certain effects, just like replacing butter for olive oil could- butter is no more unhealthful than olive oil is healthy. It's all about finding the right balance for yourself and not buying into to reactionary hype which leads to statements like "hotoynoodle" made. And there is considerable evidence that simply being on a restricted diet, of any kind, has very positive psychological effects in that, among other things, the dieter has an impression of self-control or restraint. The positive effects have very little to do with what is actually being restricted.

                              the amount of soy protein in one glass of "soy milk" exceeds the total soy consumed by most asians in an entire day.

                                  Thank goodness for the internet. Without it how would all that worthless untested "scientific" theory get any hint of credibility?

                                  I think a better argument than one based on pseudo-science (particularly the first link, which in my opinion has some not very politically correct racial undertones) would be the simpler one: who the hell drinks a whole glass of soymilk? Eww. I'll take my tofu neat, though.

                                    I'll have a venti, soy, half decaf mocha with a splash of sugar-free raspberry syrup...oh, and with whip.

                                    There you go, half of California is consuming 20 oz daily with that drink alone. (oh, oops.)

                                      I think that's the problem--Americans hear that soy is good for you so overdo it. I do know people who've replaced their 2-4 glasses of milk w/ soy milk,eat soy protein as meat, eat edmame (bags of them?), etc. They eat far more in a day than a typical asian would eat in a week. My nephew was telling me his mother switched him over completely to soy products. Ooh, let me know if your breasts start growing. On second thought, pass the soy milk.;-)

                        2. Is there any real scientific research on this? Maybe a double blind, peer-reviewed study? If not, you are probably wasting your time. Is this woman a doctor? All I could find out about her online was that she was a "diet coach". I'd be curious as to what her qualifications are, not because eating the diet could cause anything bad to happen, but because if you do have some medical issue, you could probably be doing something more constructive than following this plan.

                          There is a great book called "Bad Science" by Ben Goldacre that discusses the whole field of diet and diet experts.                             Sure what you place in your mouth matters but health includes physical
                            Yoga will get you where you want to go if you are willing to work hard.

                            Good luck DreamCyn. There is nothing wrong with seeking self improvement. Health is a lifestyle not a diet.
