Pork in Westchester -- Is there a Satriale's Equivalent

Where can one find a great Italian butcher that'll sell great Pork?

  1. Dante's on Central Ave on the Hartsdale/White Plains border may be able to fill the Satriales's void. That or A & S Pork Store in Yonkers (Highridge Plaza) and Thornwood.

I'm specifically looking to find Porchette (roast pig) , haven't seen it here, but had some that I just LOVED near Toronto.

      1. re: bdr

I LOVE Porchette. :o) Arthur Ave might be the way to go then - you won't go wrong there. But you could try asking the people at Dante's or A & S to order it for you.

    2. Unless you are up in the Goldens Bridge area, making it impractical, you can't be more than 15-30 mins from the real deal, on Arther Ave in the Bronx...I make it from Darien in about 30-35 mins...

The place you seek is Calabria Bros, on the southern part of the street, east side.
If you are south or White Plains, its probably as quick to go there as almost anywhere else that has a similar vibe.

      1. Try Karl Ehner's in Yorktown Heights

Karl Ehner's is german - a far cry from Satriales!!!

I have no idea what satriales is... maybe someone should elaborate?

I like the Pork Store on Willet Ave in Port Chester and Crisfield's in Rye. Crisfields is a general butcher, but I've gotten great pork products.

It is an Italian pork store - made famous by The Sopranos, but equivalents would be Dantes in Hartsdale.

        2. Are you referring to Satriale's, the fictional pork store in The Sopranos where human remains frequently found their way through the meat grinder? If so, I hope there is no equivelent in Westchester! Absent travelling down to Arthur Ave, I find the sausage (and other meats) at Cole's in Montrose very good.

lol satriale's never existed in reality
used to go there to watch the sopranos being shot
            was a vacant storfront
now the building was torn down to make a condo
            talk about destruction
fyi my favorite is in the city on bleecker st
i dont know if they ship but they make make own fresh and dried sausages
a culinary tradition to be treured and savored

Was at Dante's this past weekend. Asked about Porchette, they looked at me like I was insane. Tried to explain it, gave up. Had nice stuffed portebello mushroom though.

Are you talking about the roast pork that is rolled up and seasoned and sometimes stuffed? I have not seen it anywhere around Westchester. I have seen spelled as Porchetta in different parts of the country. The owner of Dante's should know about it...maybe not the counter help though...

                1. re: cubanat

Yes, cubanat, that sounds like it exactly. I'll try finding the owner at Dante's, as well as A&S, this weekend.

          2. a&s pork store on central ave, or even thornwood is probably your best bet. you might call park place deli in port chester, they might have it.

Iron Tomato on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains. They have a great butcher department. Fresh meat. They make their own sausage on the premises and will cut meat to order. Everything is fresh.
