Smoked duck sandwich @ A Gold, Spitalfields Market, London

One of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. Particularly notable was the high quality of the bread -- a sour dough-like bread that was moist, soft with the right level of sponginess and good flavour, a rustic (if a bit modest) sourness. The firm but tender slices of smoked duck were also well flavoured, more of the ruddy duck flavour than smoke, contrasting well with the light cranberry (iirc) spread. Butter, tomato and lettuce form the rest of the well composed sandwich.

    Nice summary, which chimes with my experiences there. £4.50 for their hot sandwich of the day is money well spent, as evidenced by the decent queue that forms for service (think they kick off at 12:30 every day).

    Roast beef with watercress, roast potatoes, mustard and horseradish on a crusty bloomer is particular favourite.....

      A tasty scotch egg, cut in half and served chilled with a thin spread of hot mustard - loved the crunchy bits of onion in the sausage layer. Nice balance of egg and meat.
