Is there any hidden junk food jems in this place? Many US theme parks have excellent food. However my experience at CW has been pretty overpriced and bad so far. I was wondering if anyone out there has any faves they'd be able to rec. We have season passes and enjoy the rides but rarely eat there.

Tiny Tom Donuts and Funnel Cakes... sweet deep fried dough is always a hit for any age.
Can't vouch for the quality, I just remember standing in line for these years ago.

Yeah the food is pretty horrid and overpriced. The common theme is $10 for most meals. They used to have decent food (still over priced) back in the early years. I remember they used to have a shack that sold deep fried battered vegetables i.e. mushrooms, onions, etc. I'd say your best bet is to stick with Mr. Sub, Manchu Wok, etc. At least it's the evil you know. Now the fries we had at some french fry shack (near Hanna Barbara land) were pretty good and my wife liked their poutine. There was a Chinese buffet restaurant in there, but I'm not sure you would want to do that and then go on rides. After all these years, you'd think CW would iron out the kinks in their food service.

As for the funnel cakes, they were okay. NOT worth $10 though.

I did a little research into this and Canada's Wonderland was purchased by Cedar Fair a few years back. The company has a reputation chain wide of having horrible, overpriced food service. The CEO of the company was on record in a shareholders conference call as basically saying people aren't there for the food and they'll eat whatever we put out there. What a shame.

The chipwhich thing sounds good and I've seen that stand near the top of wonder mountain! I'm not a big fan of funnel cakes but that seems to be a hit there.

The Potato Patch fry place was a bit on the frustrating side. I really don't expect a whole lot in a theme park but they have these big signs saying "FRESH CUT FRIES!!!" On the menu it says "fresh cut fries" as well. We tried this out a couple of weeks back and could clearly see that there's a huge freezer full of fries in the back. Bags were removed from the freezer and fries were dumped into the fryer. So the whole "fresh cut fries" thing is a flat out lie. I asked an employee about this and got a blank confused stare for an answer.

It's a shame because I'd like to eat in the park but hate paying out the nose for crap. Currently just make an effort to eat before and after to avoid it. I will check out the chipwhiches on next visit!

Cedar Fair's reputation is having the best rides, not the best food. (if only they'd bring some of those Cedar Point roller coasters here... Top Thrill Dragster would be nice). They're still making money while their competitor Six Flags is in Chapter 11 so they must be doing something right....

But to get back on topic and answer the original question, I'd recommend after a long day there you'll be hungry so, just drive a bit northeast of the park and you'll find yourself at Chicago Pizza Kitchen... see other threads... IMHO the best pizza in the GTA.

I totally agree about Chicago Pizza Kitchen but without a car it's a bit of a hike. We have entertained the idea of catching the bus on Major Mack and heading down.

For the record Six Flags was buried by a reckless management team that came into play in the late 90s and was forced out a few years back. The current team in place is actually turning a good profit at the parks but it's too little too late. The crazy debt that the former management tream ran up is due so they had to file. Speaking of Six Flags, La Ronde in Montreal is managed by Six Flags and you can get a decent poutine five different ways there!

since you have a season pass you would be better of leaving the park and walking accross the street to one of the many eateries that surround the park. for example at jane and norwood ave directly east of the park is a nice churasco chicken place right next to a subway shop.

I sold my car last year and live in the core downtown so we usually take the Go bus up unless we have a car rented. As a season pass holder we generally spend less time in the park in one visit than someone that buys a single day ticket so usually a few hours tops. So it's pretty easy to just avoid the food all together.

It seems like a missed opportunity though. I'd gladly pay top dollar for CNE like junk there, but the food is really bad. On a visit in July I grabbed a Chicken Ceasar Wrap at the Backlot food court thing. It cost about $12 with tax and the chicken was this gross spongy yellowish processed stuff with fake grill marks on it. I was essentially eating the inside of a sketchy nugget without the fried part. Based on the institutional quality of what was provided I paid $12 for something that probably cost the park less than $1.

Wonderland sucks your money like one big vacuum cleaner - food is awful although I did find out the season pass holders get 15 percent off at certain concession stands.

As stated earlier in this thread, the best bet is to leave the park and cross the road where there is a plethora of choices - from Indian, sri lankan, greek, italian, subs and pizzas.
