Mexican lunch in Scottsdale?
We're making a Prescott-to-Scottsdale Trader Joe's run, via Cave Creek, and would appreciate recommendations for a Mexican lunch not too far off that route. Had picked up on Los Sombreros from another thread but see it's not open that early. Veggie options beyond cheese enchies (e.g. great rellenos, Sonoran enchies) would be especially welcome.
I quite like Pinata Nueva for Mexican meals in North Scottsdale. Near 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright. Very acceptable, authentic, casual food, big portions, reasonable prices. Huevos Rancheros is always a great bet for lunch if you want a veggie plate but not enchiladas. Trader Joe's rocks!! Restaurant is maybe a 5 minute drive from the Frank Lloyd Wright Trader Joe's!
Thanks to both of you. As it turned out, family issues sent us to Casa Grande (and the TJ's in Chandler) instead, so we'll save your suggestions for the next run and have bookmarked a couple of menus. Cantina Laredo has a couple of interesting choices, but buried in Los Olivos's ala carte listing are Sonoran enchiladas, which are hard to come by the further north you get from Tucson. (And I see each of them gets mixed reviews on Yelp.) In the meantime, if you ever find yourself stranded in CG I can recommend Mi Amigo Ricardo for good basic (and cheap!) Mexican food.
My favorite restaurant near the Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd Trader Joe's is the Persian Room, nearly opposite on Scottsdale Rd. As the name states, it's not Mexican but the food is excellent with many good veggie options. Before and with your meal they serve fresh, warm flatbread with fresh basil, sliced raw onions and butter - oh, my - quite incredible!

I believe that there is a higher end Mexican restaurant on the west side of the same shopping center (I assume you're going to the Frank Lloyd Wright location), but I can't vouch for how good it is. In the area I can think of Carlos O'Brian's, Salty Senorita (more of a bar with okay food), and Los Olivos. Of those three I'd probably go with Los Olivos, though I've only been to the south location. If you're looking for some good Mexican vegetarian options, I'd personally go to Via delosantos, but that's probably another 25 minute drive from TJ's. Service can be slow, but I've always had great food here.

The higher end place you're thinking of is probably Cantina Laredo. I've had good and not so good experiences there. One time I had fresh fish. It was good, but, not cheap. Another time I had basic enchiladas, and the sauce seemed to come from a can.
I am really at a loss for good Mexican in N. Scottsdale. Is that Trader Joes significantly better than other locations? What about the TJ's on 20th St and Camelback? Take Hwy 51 into Phoenix from the Cave Creek area and your choices for Mexican food get much better.
