Food Tours/ Culinary School in Thailand

I really want to do a food tour or attend a culinary school in southeast asia. I found a company named Global Taste that has a 3 week or 6 week course in Bangkok and was wondering if anyone has used them before or knows of any other food related tour groups in the area.

  1. it really depends what you are looking for. i would find out from them what schools they use. i have never come across their facility (i'm a travel writer and have written two books about Thailand/Bangkok and have done a lot of research about cooking schools here) so i suspect they are farming out the instruction.

honestly i think if you're serious enough about Thai cooking to want to spend 3 weeks learning about it, i'd contact a restaurant here and see if you can just spend some time with their chefs or in their kitchen. unfortunately most of the cooking schools in bangkok only offer day or week-long programs, nothing longer than that.

    1. I've only been to one cooking class in Bangkok, at Baipai.
I thought it was great. I had never had any interest in cooking Thai food before (and never tried it) and the class gave me a solid foundation and made me realize how easy it was! So now I cook Thai food all of the time. However, it was pretty expensive.

There are a lot of cooking schools in Chiang Mai it seems. This is one that I am looking at: Thai Cooking School

Here's an article about it from Gourmet

I guess it depends on what you are after. Frankly I think I'd get bored of 3-6 weeks of Thai cooking classes, but then again, I'm not a professional chef. That's what looks nice about the Thai Cookery School one, though. They have much more inexpensive daytime classes and then "master classes" in the evenings for pros. Also, if you are looking for more of a package deal they do some special with a local hotel so you can get a deal if you book both. There are also a lot of other cooking places in Chiang Mai if you have a browse around.
