vegetarian meat recommendations?

amy_wong Aug 20, 2009 07:09 PM

I'm talking mock meat beyond what's offered in the grocery (e.g., Quorn, Tofurky, Morningstar Farms.) Specifically, I'm looking for something like the vegetarian ham in Similans in Cambridge. Any ideas? Has anyone here tried any of the products offered by May Wah?

Not vegetarian ham, but I like the vegetarian duck at the banh mi shop whose name I'm forgetting, in the jewelry shop by the back door of the Washington St C-Mart--well, not in the jewelry shop, but it seems like it--on Beach St, I think. (How's that for specific?) I haven't been by there in a while, but they used to have a variety of vegetarian "mock meat" items in plastic packages. Some other banh mi shops around town do, too.

My vegetarian SO loves the mock ham they use at the Buddhist Center on Mass Ave. between Harvard and Central Squares. You can buy it directly from the Center (as well as enjoy it in their always enjoyable vegan lunch specials).
