Taco Cart in Rosslyn

caphill2320 Aug 20, 2009 04:20 PM

I work right in Rosslyn and I noticed that there is a new taco cart outside the WJLA building at lunchtime. The sign says District Taco.

Has anyone tried it? Is it good?

I did. They have vegetarian tacos that are really good. Good and inexpensive!! I think they told me one of the owners is from Mexico, which is a plus for me. I like the authentic stuff.

So you like the authentic stuff, but you want a vegetarian taco? I hate to point this out, but this seems a little but hypocritical, since every authentic taqueria I've been to seems to present tacos as a way to get a variety of meats to your mouth. With all of the classic tacos, the barbacoa, lengua, carne asada, trippa, the various animal parts that are sometimes offered, I guess I've never associated the idea of vegetarian taco with authentic.

Not sure if you've ever been to Mexico, but there are a lot of beans going on there!!! The vegetarian taco had beans that I thought had a really good flavor plus the salsas seemed fresh and different to me - which I guess seemed authentic. They did also have meat - chorizo and bacon. You are right, there was no tongue, stomach, etc., but a taco is not only a way to eat meat it is a way NOT to use utensils. What's inside it is up to the person eating it!! However, they did have a some kind of lunch special planned yesterday that they were advertising as real Mexican food. I'll definitely keep them on my radar - even if they don't serve tongue. I am not a vegetarian btw.
