8/20/09 Mulan's Tea Smoked Duck Still the Best

  • 5

Lunched here the other day and reconfirmed that the Mulan Tea Smoked Duck is unbeatable!! Thick moist meat, full sweet smoke flavor. While FuLoon remains my #1 chinese restnt in Boston, their smoked duck cannot hold a candle to Mulan's. I know some of you have had and liked the F version, but the 3 times I have kept trying this dish at FuLoon, it has been dry, thin meat , and lacking the flavor of Mulan. Anyone else had this wondrous dish at Mulan?

  1. Haven't had it, but the boneless Shangri-La version was a revelation for me. Now I can't bring myself to order anything else.

SL's version is pretty awesome, have not tried it at Mulan.

    2. Does anyone know if they deliver (reliably) these days? When they first opened, 95% of the time that I'd call they'd say "no delivery tonight!". Finally I just quit calling. While it isn't far from me, it's enough out of the way that I don't really ever go there.

I've never had a problem with delivery and I live on the opposite end of Cambridge from Mulan. The food comes fresh and fast. And, on one night, in the middle of a snow storm.

ETA: one night I put in a huge pre-order for a party. The next day, I called to confirm. Both times, the woman kept asking me if I was sure that I didn't want delivery (it was going to Central Sq). I said that I would pick up myself. This was during the winter around Chinese New Year. It was when we had huge snow followed by thaw followed by freeze. Consequently, everything was a huge ice slick. When I went to pick up in these hazardous conditions (their parking lot was like death), I really wished that I had taken their offer of delivery.

Good to know. It's been at least 2-3 years since I've last tried (I forget when they opened, but basing it on which apartment I was in).

Given how lazy I am, I probably wouldn't have found myself in parking lot o' doom, but at least it worked out :)
