where to buy live crab near DC?

Coming to visit friends Labor Day weekend and want to cook them dinner.
Where can we buy live crabs (especially directly from boat) near DC and/or Silver Springs, MD?

I'm sure you know this, Chownut, but the OP may not.
None of those boats at Maine Avenue has left the dock in - what? - decades? If at all since they pulled up there. The crabs and other seafood is trucked in.
The boats do provide a nice ambiance though, don't they?

i did not know that. Sad part is its still probably the freshes seafood we can get in the area.

Crabs are fine there. They sell the alive and kicking. Doesn't matter if they're off the truck.

where can i buy crabs that I can bring back with me on a plane to Toronto? I have a few more days in the DC area and would like to get them soon.

You can purchase live blue crabs from Captain White's at the Maine Ave Wharf - they will steam them for free - let them cool off - put them in zip lock, freeze them, place them securely in a cooler with about 4lbs of ice. You can purchase a 1/2 bushel of med size mixed for about $35 currently.

If you don't want to trek down to DC, Camron's off 16th and East West Highway in SS usually has good kickin' crabs for reasonable prices. They will also steam them as well with their goodness seasoning.
