The Hut Long Branch - Yipes!
So the other day a few friends and I hit up the Hut in Long Branch. I was pretty excited to check this place out as they bill themselves "island cuisine" with Jerk chicken on the menu.
Let me start by saying that this is going to be the worst review I've given a restaurant and I feel bad about it because everyone there was so nice and really went out of their way in terms of service.
To start off they brought us some chips and salsa on the house. Unfortunately both the chips and salsa were store bought - with the salsa being the cooked 'tostitos' type. Disappointing start to a meal.
Their menu is very limited - basically they have jerk chicken, BBQ chicken, and teriyaki chicken available in a wrap, sandwich, or platter. They also have burgers and shrimp I think but that's about it.
Even after asking for the jerk chicken to be done spicy, I could barely taste the jerk. When I asked for additional jerk sauce I noticed that they were using a store bought jerk marinade.
The jerk chicken platter had two skewers of jerk chicken breasts, yellow rice and black beans both of which tasted like it came straight out of a can/box. There was very little in the way of seasoning.
It was pretty disappointing for me cuz I was hoping for a castaways-like experience in long branch. Not only was the food terrible the prices were pretty high for what you get.
Unfortunately I won't be going back here any time soon...
