Suggestions for Romantic & Memorable Dinner near Siena?

Hello.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 10th Anniversry in Italy. We will spend 5 blissful days in Tuscay, very near Siena.

We are both food & wine lovers. I am looking for some great recomnedations for a very memorable & romantic Anniversary dinner celebration within a doable distance from Siena (realizing we will likely be sampling much wine!). Off the tourist beat is even better, but welcome all suggestions.

Thanks!

      hi.

      Most Likely:

      Siena
      San Gig
      Volterra
      Possibly Pisa
      Montepulciano

However, am open to suggestions of other great towns with great dining.

      Thank you.

assuming you are staying near Siena, some of those towns are quite away for a dinner and a drive home at night on tuscan Roads,

i agree, i really like pienza, but that an 1 hour drive from siena, let me think....

in the town of loro ciufena, there is a wonderful very nice restaurant, right on the small river that runs thru the town, that has great food, great vibe, its just beyond the big clock tower of loro ciufena, i will try to recall name, its fabuous

Take you pick, but I'll bet you mean Osteria Il Canto del Maggio

thanks, but no, none of them are it

                1. re: intrepid

Canto di Maggio is actually a better place, although Loro Ciuffenna is a pretty town. Kind of pushing it for dinner from Siena, though.

Locanda Amoroso in Sinalunga seems like just the ticket, though. A beautiful restaurant in a 13th century complex, very good food and wine, and a straight shot from Siena with no mountain driving. And as romantic as the name implies.

                  1. re: condiment

hi i agree, loro is a bit far from siena, however i disagree with Amorosa, we have stayed there twice, beautiful place, but food is just ok, nothing great imho

                  2. re: intrepid

some more from loro to help Intrepid with remembrance - maybe its one of these?http://www.villabelpoggio.com/Restaur...

But thats MUCH too far. OP needs closer recommendations

We were in Siena in July & happened to find a romantic restaurant with very good food (amazing risotto!!). Is is located quite close to the cathedral. It is called Da Divo (www.osteriadadivo.it) and also has some tables that are quite spread out to lend to the romantic atmosphere. Their e-mail is osteriadivo@hotmail.com. Enjoy!

ive walked by and looked in , never ate there, anyone else have opinion on food pls? thanks

                        2. re: intrepid

which one is it? - they recommend several places.

Its been a long time since we have been in the vicinity of Siena - I pulled out my Michelin and realize that these days there are 5 starred restaurants in or around Siena - a lot more ambitious cooking going on. Il Colombaio in Casole d'Elsa, ila Bottega del 30 n Castelnuovo Berardenga (that town was nowheresville, touristically 20 yrs ago), Arnolfo, a 2star in Colle Val d'Elsa and two in Siena itself, one at a Relais/Chateaux place, Certosa di Maggiano. Say what you will about Michelin in Italy, they have high standards for wine, ambiance and service. Almost certainly these are discussed on other foodboards if you cant get any more recommendations here.

To me, the Tuscan setting is inherently romantic - put me on a peaceful terrace with the that beautiful world around and nice relaxed service and wines and im very happy. No need for fuss.

                          1. re: jen kalb

I agree with jen kalb. In Tuscany, a restaurant doesn't have to have Michelin stars and three kinds of wine glasses to offer a romantic and memorable meal.

San Gimignano, Volterra, Pisa (!) and Montepulciano are all too far away to drive back comfortably from after a long dinner. I'd look for something in the Chianti like Il Ristoro di Lamole. Great food, great views; no Michelin stars and only one wine glass.

                            1. re: jen kalb

                              Hi Jen:
I loved Bottega del 30, but looking at its website, they don't mention the restaurant, only the cooking school(????). Don't know what's up.

              2. Thanks to all for the suggestions and feedback.

I agree with the other posters that those are drives from Siena that you might not want to do. A little closer to home in the tiny (really, I do mean tiny) town of Vagliagli, you'll find a nice dinner at Restaurant Taverna di Vagliagi - literally the only place in town. We've never been disappointed with our meals there, and we try and go every year. I think it is about 15km from there to Siena. Address: Via del Sergente, 4, Vagliagli. Ph. +39 0577 322 532.

Happy Anniversary! We, too, will be celebrating our 10th in the Siena area this fall.
