We are trying to hammer down to Mississippi and want to avoid urban St. Louis. Are their any chowish lunch spots south of St. Louis on I-55 (Arnold, Pevely)? Thanks.

I think you are going to be very hard pressed in those areas. However, along 55 into the city is a good place called iron Barley. It has been on Man vs Food and maybe on DDD.

The Monte Cristo Dog Sammie is excellent... As well as the smoked Prime Rib...

I too was thinking that Iron Barley would be the best bet. Even though it is in St. Louis, it is very close to 55.
The only other place I can think of is Bobby Tom's bbq in Pevely. Several have recommended it but I haven't tried it yet.

I live in Festus and work in Pevely. There are three places I would recommend.
Not in any order. (1) Blue Owl in Kimmswick, great home cooking and atmosphere.
        (2) Frankie G's in Imperial, wide selection of just good food, (3) Bobby Tom's in Pevely for BBQ Pulled Pork, Pork Steaks and Ribs are good. Enjoy!

Posting back. We had lunch at Bobby Tom's and it was worthy. One of the few places I've ever been where you can get a barbequed pork steak. It was delish as was the potato salad.
