Where can i buy Aronia Berry and Black Currant juices?
I've been trying to find Aronia Berry and Black Currant juices for sorbets but i haven't been able to find ANY in any of the stores i thought would have them. i checked whole foods, trader joes, fresh & easy and a few other of those gourmet organic specialty stores in the LA area but haven't been any to find anything at all.
If anyone knows where i can find some i would be REALLY appreciate or since i'm having so much trouble finding the juices suggestions for any other berry juice that, that's easier to find, would be greatly appreciated.
i've been dying to make these sorbets ever since i had some black currant ice cream my friend brought from some ice cream shop in LA... i'd make ice cream but i have terrible luck when i try make ice cream see burnt curdled milk as an example...
Thanks in Advance!!!
You need to head for the ethnic stores, particularly Russian, Armenian or Eastern European. Down here in OC we have an amazing Persian market called Wholesome Choice with fifty kinds of Russian juice, including (for certain sure) blackcurrant. Chokeberry (aronia) maybe, I have never looked for it. You could also buy whole frozen blackcurrants and (maybe) chokeberries in the freezer section. In case the containers (they come in cylindrical waxed-heavy-paper quarts) are labelled only in Russian, chokeberry is Арония (aroniya) and blackcurrant is Смородина чёрная (smorodina chornaya)
And you could make a trip of it and have lunch in their food court (particularly Anaheim Hills).
If you want to try closer to LA, check with Blackjack Market on Sherman Way and Bellaire in North Hollywood, Jons Markets (a chain all over LA), Super King in Glassell Park, and Q Groceries on Vanowen and (?) Reseda.
As for your ice cream, your heat is possibly too high -- lower it and stand next to it waiting, painful as it is. It'll be worth it. :)
Hope this helps.

re: Das Ubergeek
Thank you so much! i will definitely give those a look i'm actually going to be in Westwood this weekend which is not too far from the the Jons Market in West Hollywood so i'll stop by there.
I really appreciate this especially the Russian spellings of the berry juices to better identify and i might just stop by the OC locations just cause it sounds so interesting. That and your descriptions sound so great. Ironically we used to have a store with a wide variety of ethnic foods including russian and eastern european but it closed about a month ago I probably could of found the juices there just wish i had thought to look sooner.
but i digress anyway Thanks Again!!!
