Hell's Kitchen 8/18/09 spoiler

Hmmm.....Jim couldn't crank out any risotto but he thought he got the least criticism from Gordo? What's he smoking? Maybe he's day dreaming about Tek.... What an odd couple.

With each episode I watch, I feel less relevant as a human. If my brain wasn't already the equivelant of a bad rissotto, I'd probably be concerned.

Can Andy actually cook at all?
Finally I just don't give a rats patooty about the morbidly obese Robert. It's not his weight that bothers me but his total lack of courtesy, respect or empathy for any one else that is less than perfect.
In seasons past by this point there were one or two stand outs.
      Not this season.

I would have to say the only stand out among those left may be Kevin. While is does like to take over, an Exec Chef needs those skills. And not that it really matters, but he is doing as well as he is while standing and moving on two bad legs.

Exactly what I've thought - Kevin and Sabrina (although she completely screwed up last night) seem to be the two standouts. Everyone else just seem like idiots.

And is anyone surprised that Robert had some health issues after having to pedal that round bicycle up a hill? I doubt it. Was he not allowed to get off and walk up and allow the other guys to just pedal? It would have been a lot easier for everyone! Oh wait - then we wouldn't have had a 911 emergency call for the drama!

Jim - hello? McFly? You in there? Didn't seem to be - although for all we know, those stunned deer in a headlight shots could have been filmed at various times throughout the show (or have been the same shot shown about 5 times, which is more likely).

Andy - I seriously have to wonder about him....does he even do anything at his own restaurant, or just stand there allowing the sous and line chefs to do it all? To his credit, at least he said he wasn't used to Gordon's type of system and was intimidated by him.

Tennille - please, please PLEASE shut yer trap. Ugh.

Should be Kevin and Sabrina for final 2, with Kevin "winning".

Dh has gotten sucked into HK with me, we watch it and LAUGH so hard! it's just sooo ridiculous. Seriously. Jim seemed either stoned or drunk during most services. Can you really be THAT laid back??? And YES. PLEASE Tennille - Shut UP!

Maybe Jim had a little of what Dave's been smoking...he seems to be the resident stoner, at least in the complete lack of inflection in his voice. :-)

I was out of the room when it happened, but I could have sworn that I heard one of the guys say "Baby food is great!"

Please tell me I was imagining it, and that NO ONE who aspires to be a chef would actually say something like that out loud and recorded for television!

I believe that was Jim who said it. Not surprisingly Gordo picked him to go.

I don't think Sabrina can cook at all. She won the diet challenge because that's what she does but she can't cook meat! From the ladies' side, I actually think Suzanne is the best (despite her constant sourpuss expression). If not, then probably Ariel.

Tennille's gotta be the most clueless person. The fact that she holds an exec chef job at a popular local chain affirms my decision to never eat at any of their locations.

I am finding this season and last night's show in particular, boring. The whole Robert drama is so last season..why bring him back for a redux of that? He's not even good enough to be there, not to mention he's not remotely healthy enough to be there and surely he and the producers knew that before he signed on again. Tennile needs to totally shut her pie hole. She is offensive and seemingly incapable. The stoner with the monotone voice, whatever his name is? What does he do? Is he qualified? Actually come to think of it, I have no idea what half their names are because they aren't standing out enough. Kevin has the most potential and Van the drill seargant sort of amuses me . That's about it. Wondering if GR feels the same way or he's just playing it up as usual and cashing his checks to help save his own biz....

And it looks like ANOTHER! DRAMATIC! EPISODE! next week - one of the FAVORITES! goes home (and the camera was focused on Van, the military guy when that was said - head fake by the editors?)

Agree - each season ends up looking like the previous one. Nothing really changes on HK.

Oh - something else I remember from last night - Sabrina said she's brought up the chicken, and Ramsay doesn't have it....did it go out? No. Ramsay asks Heather if she sent it out. No. So WTH happened to it? Did one of the camera people eat it and no one saw it? Come on. It's getting to be very manufactured drama at this point....not that it hasn't been in the past, but it seems to be even more so this season, what with Joseph the guy who got in Ramsay's face, missing chicken, Robert's health issues....

Linda, you're right. What DID happen with the chicken? Stay tuned for NEXT! WEEK'S! SHOCKING! EPISODE!. Not! ha! But we still watch....I can't help it...I just wish it wasn't so fabricated

I think chef Ramsay is definitely sabotaging some of the contestants (lost chicken). I also think Andy is hustling everyone but chef Ramsey, I think Andy is a ringer and only Andy and chef Ramsay are in the know.
Reasons: Nobody can be that bad! and chef Ramsay keeps saving him when it comes time for elimination.

Andy's got his own blog http://fearlesschef.com/ and has said in an earlier blog that he's not used to the type of set-up (French?) that Ramsay uses, and the long (VERY long) hours and the amount of alcohol adds to the stupidness of the contestants (agreeing with a recent NYT article about reality show contestants and what they deal with).

LindaWhit RE: Fydeaux Aug 19, 2009 06:57 AM

Yup - that was Jim, after Ramsay said his food (risotto?) tasted like baby food because he hadn't seasoned it at all. Jim said that to the interview camera.

                Yep, that was pretty hilarious.
I think of the girls Ariel could be the sleeper who gets it. I think Kevin is slightly obnoxious, but has the greatest potential to win of the guys.
would be SO happy to see Dave the stoner go, his monotone is just killing me - but you gotta give him props for doin his best with only one working arm!

The guys lost the initial challenge, and Scott made them drive/ride a circular bicycle (I think they've used it before) to the store to pick up onions and potatoes. Of course, going uphill, Robert could barely handle it. When he got back to HK, he sat down on one of the benches in the restaurant and couldn't get up - he asked for a medic (heart racing, etc.) and they called 911 to get an ambulance there. Scott told the guys later that Robert wouldn't be helping during dinner service that night. As of the end of the ep, he was still out.

Thanks for th 411 on Robert's 911. I'll try to catch the first half of the show via Hulu, if it's on Hulu?

Yeah i missed it too,but knew robert was out from last week's previews.
The thing with the chicken puzzles me.Did someone eat the chicken, like the crew and not fess up?Just weird.Yeah, Tennile needs to shut up,but it would be weird wouldn't it if she got pretty far in the game. Even with her antics, the women still seemed to give a better service. And what was with the raw pork?
They all should no better than that. I don't know who to route for.Is Kevin the
                  bald guy?

from what I have seen,he seems to know what he's doing.
Hey,maybe we all should try out. Think it would make for a fun show, since
we can't be any worse than some of them.

I dont recall any mention of either his or Stocking Cap Boy's injuries in this episode. Did I miss something, or did they just not use this particular plot point?

Haven't seen Kevin limping, but Dave (Stocking Cap Boy) is still wearing his wrist cast, I believe. And IIRC, he wasn't accepting help from anyone in prep (or maybe that was last week's episode).

Kevin is a lookalike to Scott, the Sous Chef.

The only time you might notice Kevin's injuries is sometimes seeing him after service with ice on his legs.

Do you mean that you were unaware that they were even injured? If so, they didn't mention it because the injuries happened about 3 episodes ago.

Fydeaux RE: dmjordan Aug 19, 2009 03:26 PM

No, I knew they had been injured. But like I said, I was out of the room part of the time. I didnt remember the injuries being referred to last night and I didnt know if they are really no longer a plot point, or did I not hear some reference to them while I was out of the room.

For what it's worth, Kevin does seem to be the one to beat, unless he's the big shock coming next week. On the ladies' side It's hard to even see a dark horse possibility quietly doing her job well like the lady finalist from last season.

What's up with the stocking cap? During service, it looked like he was sweating profusely to the point his hair looked like it was dripping wet.

Finally got to watch it. Once again Ramsay picks who he wants no matter who was put up for elimination. That's why I laugh whenever a cook tries to think strategically about who they put up (as has happened in previous seasons). Doesn't matter who you pick cause Ramsay will do what he wants anyway. Love it!

I'm finding it interesting that very few of the "rewards" have involved GR this season. Maybe he is finding the players tedious too...

Regarding Robert, you would think passing a physical would be a basic requirement to be accepted on the show. I don't really rate a potential heart attack as "entertainment".

I'm going to miss Jim - I liked his dry wit. Tennille is just vulgar and dumb to boot.

I also noticed that GR was conspicuously absent from many of the rewards, and the rewards seem kind of lame this year. Maybe he has his hands full with bad press, closing restaurants, marital troubles, etc. Even the choice of Araxi seems kind of ho hum, somehow.

I was sorry to see Jim go, as well. He showed occasional flashes of competence, but I think his unflappable nature got him kicked off.

I'd hate to see HK taken off the air, but it's really becoming irrelevant. When Top Chef came out, I avoided it because I thought of it as a HK wannabe. Now, I love TC and really only watch HK out of my respect (slow and regrettably dwindling) for Gordon Ramsay and my nostalgia for how fun and entertaining it was during the first two seasons. I would love to see GR totally retool HK into something more like TC.

HK is as entertainging now as it's ever been. It's never had great talent, but it's never lacked drama. In fact, we get these "never seen before" episodes on a regular basis. I enjoy it for what it is, a reality TV show that happens to take place in a kitchen. It's not much of a cooking show.
