Deep-fried flour-tortilla tacos in Toronto?

I'm looking for (even a pale imitation of) a taco I had in Omaha (at the GI Forum in case anyone is interested)... spiced ground beef in a flour tortilla, crimped at the top to keep the fillings in and deep fried to the point of perfect crisp and flakiness. The one I couldn't eat at breakfast (I know) was eaten in the car later (road trips, eh?) and was still pretty good. I can't tell you how bad I wish I'd brought back a flat of them.

But I didn't. Has anyone had anything like this in Toronto? I've had flautas at a few places but a) they seem to be crunchy rather than flaky, and b) you just can't pack enough delicious in there. I know the general state of Mexican food in Toronto isn't great but then, this probably doesn't really qualify as Mexican anyway.

Judge not lest ye etc. etc.

  1. Doesn't Taco Bell offer something almost as monstrous?

Although what I ate definitely qualifies as monstrous, it did actually taste of actual food ingredients (decent saucy salsa, real beef) rather than taco bell's orange-souped meat filler.

I suppose I equally hope and fear that you are proved right.

Theirs looks like the business end of an enormous 12gauge shotgun round. Suppose you could bribe it into a deep fryer...TO needs some taco trucks badly.
