<content>I cannot have cheese in the house unless I'm planning to cook with it - and even then it is likely I'll scoff it before using it for the recipe for which it is intended.
Almonds get nuked and munched at midnight.
Peanut butter seems to evaporate.

What foods do you avoid buying because you know you won't be able to resist their lure when the munchies strike?</content>

<content>Crunchy cheetos. Pistachios. Pistachios really are my downfall, b/c not only are they my favorite nuts (ok, after walnuts maybe), but the whole tactile experience of prying them open plays into my fidgetiness.... so before I know it, I've got a pile of pistachio shells in front of me, and a tad bit more 'good' fat inside of me than necessary &gt;sigh&lt;</content>

As an aside, you haven't seen cashews in shells because they're notoriously hard to crack. It's one of the reasons they're so expensive compared to other nuts.</content>

I absolutely do not keep any sort of salty snack in the house except for Smart Balance microwave popcorn. Cheetos, Fritos, Lays potato chips... I love all of them and cannot step away from the bag. So, I just don't buy them. If I have a salt craving, I pop a few olives and I'm good to go. A jar of olives can last me for a month. </content>

It looked good in the picture.

      <content>Almonds..
They are not healthy (or cheap) at the rate I can get through them - especially marconas.
I nuke them in 10 second bursts on high stirring between blasts till they are starting to brown (they burn very easily). Then leave them a minute or so till they crisp up and cool down, shake on some salt (optional) and munch.

Regarding potato chips etc - I don't buy that sort of stuff anyway, except when I want to be indulgent. It's 'danger ingredients' intended for cooking that call my name.

LOL! I'm going to have to take up camping!

I seldom buy Kettle Chips in the daytime, actually; it's kind of a 3 a.m. indulgence after we've spent a long night out with friends. Somehow the deliciousness is elevated to new heights at night -- and unfortunately, the 24 hour a day corner grocer right around the corner from me stocks them.

I've never tried the buffalo bleu variety... uh oh...</content>

<content>Agreed with the good chips. I can keep Lays or Wise in my apartment until they go stale. But good chips are dangerous for me.

I'll also have to say gianduja chocolate. I can keep darker chocolate for a while because I can't eat a lot in one sitting due to their bitterness. But gianduja is so easy to eat. Somebody should invent gianduja coated potato chips. I've had chocolate covered potato chips before and they really go well together.</content>

<content>So true about Lays / Wise / most commercial chips. I've forgotten about bags in my pantry, before -- something that would never, ever happen with good chips!

My downfall is kettle cooked chips in general (not just the Kettle Chips brand). Did you ever go to Absolutely 4th in the West Village? It was a cocktail bar, now closed, that used to serve very sweet, 'girly' cocktails -- kind of appalling in retrospect. (Think neon blue and green drinks, apple 'martinis', etc...) They had some of the best housemade, kettle-cooked potato chips, ever, though, which they'd bring to your table, warm, during happy hours. I'm embarrassed to admit that more than once, in grad school, I made a meal of these two-for-one cocktails and potato chips...

I think *you* should invent gianduja covered potato chips! </content>

<content>-Trail mix from Costco ... I can finish off the entire bag by myself before the week is over if I'm not careful.
-Nuts
-Tortilla chips, guacamole, sour cream and salsa (basically anything I can dip the chip in)
-Salami and prosciutto
-I agree with you on the cheese, most cheese anyways. My hubby picked up pepper jack the last couple times he went shopping for me because he knows we don't usually eat it alone like sharp cheddar.
-Peanut butter, and almond butter (love these on a spoon!)
-Fiber One bars (the chocolate chip or peanut butter ones are just like cookies, I don't like the caramel bars)
-Dried prunes or apricots (the huge Costco ones can disappear in less than a week)
-Granola (w/ pumpkin seeds)
-rarely buy donuts, but occasionally the hubby thinks he is doing me and the children a service by bringing them home, oy ve!
-maui onion chips

The thing I avoid most from this list is the Costco trail mix, it is the most dangerous for me. We probably buy 1 time a year if that ... and I justify that my 6 year old can't eat it anyways ... so we also try not to do nuts to often either</content>

It can be sitting in my pantry untouched for weeks, then one night (it's always at night!) I find myself standing in front of the open pantry, plastic spoon in hand (it has to be a plastic spoon! It just tastes better...), enjoying that sweet, chocolately goodness straight out of the jar. I'll do that for a few nights in a row and then the craving settles down. Have you ever tried it spread on a banana split lengthwise and put back together? Delish! </content>

Nutella, mascarpone, and sprinkled brown sugar. 90 seconds in the oven and it turned into the most delicious thing I'd ever tasted. Not pretty, but oh, the nutella was warm and gooey, the mascarpone rich and smooth, the brown sugar caramelized into delicious little bits of crunchy goodness. I think I ate half the thing myself. Nutella is good, but this was divine.</content>

We don't "keep" either of these in the house, but the Oreos get brought home from the store sometimes when they're on sale. Mr. bakinggirl and I can go through 3/4 of a package in one sitting. Potato chips are a nasty one; they normally get purchased when we have company over, and I can control myself when there are others to feed, but I have been known to eat a regular-sized bag of Utz rippled chips in one sitting. Cabot French Onion dip doesn't help.

<content>Chips. One bag = one serving, even the Costco-sized bags. This weakness extends to all small, dry, salty, crunchy things--chips, crackers, nuts--but chips are without question THE worst. Michael Season's cheese puffs top the list, closely followed by Barbara's...oh heck, who am I kidding, Nacho Cheese Doritos and Cheetos aren't safe in my house, either. Tim's has a new one, pepper jack, that's very tasty. Oh dear, I'm revealing how much I know about all the items in the chip aisle...</content>

Somehow I have trained myself not to eat them except in one ounce increments as long as they're stored raw in the freezer. I keep nut butters on the bottom shelf in the fridge because if they're at eye level, well, I'd snack on them a lot more often! So, yeah, I have an issue with nuts, I will admit.

My mom can't control herself around sliced or any kind of ready to eat cheese. It's funny how we both manage such red light foods in similar ways. She buys cheese in blocks, and I only buy nuts raw. I guess it's a case of "like mutha, like dotta!"</content>

Ice Cream, I can have one serving and the rest of the pint will sit in the freezer until I throw it out. Same goes for cakes or pies that I make or buy. Chips, nuts, pretzels can last a while around here. But I could blow through a package of cookies in an embarrassing amount of time. Like, when my husband knows I bought them two days earlier when he finally decides he wants one - but they are all gone. </content>

<content>We have a place here in AK called the AK Wild Berry factory (they have America's biggest chocolate water type fall) and come to think of it they make chocolate dipped pretzels ... so I think I have tried it in a sample and yes it is good, but when I am at the factory it is the other wonderful offerings that I can't stop eating like the mount mckinley chocolates with cashews, macadamia nuts, almonds or peanuts covered with chocolate and marshmellows .... Mmmmmm yum! Also love the chocolate covered peanut butter, and chocolate covered cherries. Ohhhh I better stay away from there. When I was a teenager my sister had a job at the AK railroad and the employees got 40 % off discounts at the factory, and we went there several times a week that summer. I think I gained alot of weight too.

<content>It is definitely one of my favorite little shops, kinda touristy but in a good way. If you ever order from them they also make delicious alaskan berry jams and jellies. The chocolate waterfall really isn't that big so i was surprised that it is the biggest but it is still pretty cool. =) Here is a pic I found online:

I'm definitely glad that I never took a job at the factory as a teen! I used to be one of those teens that often ate when I was bored. I once gained 30 lbs. in one summer working as a breakfast hostess at a hotel. I don't have that issue anymore as I never get bored with my 3 kids. ;)

Should your travels ever take you to Connecticut, chocolates with peanut butter centers from Munson's must be on your list of treats to try. For sure, I can't keep them in the house. The peanut butter is far too creamy and they just go down WAY too easily. MOO. :)

<content>Im with you all on the salty/crunchy stuff. Cool Ranch Doritos. Zapps honey mustard chips (good thing these are hard to find). Utz crab chips. And Mr. Cheflambo must have in the house, at all times, Cheez-its, NOT Cheez Nips. Its "zitz" or nothing. They are always on my shopping list and there is always an "emergency box of zitz" stashed somewhere deep in the pantry. </content>

<content>miss delish, i'm not sure. are they sort of sweet? (and not really "new"?). i'm probably thinking of an older flavor that i wasn't crazy about. i always come back to the nacho cheese. &lt;edit: i just looked at their site http://www.fritolay.com/our-snacks/doritos.html , and think the one i had was "spicy sweet chili". so....it's not the same as yours. holy moly, where can i get "last call jalape&#241;o popper flavored doritos"?!?!?!?&gt;.

here on the east coast, we don't get some (most!) of those great-sounding flavors that frito-lay puts out in the s.w. united states. i wonder if that "poppers" flavor is one. or salsa verde, or cheesy enchiladas. ;-(.

edit -- again -- i used the dorito locator (!) and found local groceries where the popper flavor (at least) is allegedly sold. we'll see! (ps, did you hear my little hip hip hooray cheer?).</content>

<content>The spicy sweet chili doritos don't have dairy - they were a dangerous find for me after 10 years of being dairy (and dorito) free! Luckilly I was eating them at a friend's house and left the bag behind there - definitely something I shouldn't have in my house.</content>

<content>I got some of those jalape&#241;o ones in Miami. Didn't care much for them.
The spicy nacho or plain nacho are the best. They also had a bbq cheddar a few years ago that was very good, but I guess they discontinued that one.</content>

<content>racer x, you're probably right -- every time i try a new flavor, i always go back to the nacho cheese. which is not the same as nacho cheesier? or is it? maybe it was the "bold" nacho that wasn't cuttin' it with me....</content>

<content>OK my bad, they don't have any cheese. I didn't think they were that sweet, but they are called Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos so it is the one you tried. I like them ... but then I tend to dip mine in sour cream which probably tames the sweet flavor. This flavor is completely new to Alaska, but maybe not the other States.</content>
