I have yet to find any place that bests the Bloody Mary at Clarke's on South Beach, which isn't your typical lazy pre made mix with a splash of vodka and maybe a flaccid celery stalk. Clarke's has real horseradish, plenty of it if you like it like I do, celery salt and tons of fresh flavor. Trying to think of something that comes close or second at least, and I can't. Anyone else out there have a recommendable fave?

L2M, what'd you think of the tomato water bloody mary at Sra. Martinez?

8 Oz. Burger Bar's online menu offers 3 different variations done with house-made mix, including a "Smoky Bacon" w/ bacon-infused vodka, and a "Bloody Murder" w/ chile-infused vodka. Haven't tried.

I suspect that Bourbon Steak makes a pretty good one too, their bar menu has a good focus on old-school cocktails.

Tomato water BM sounds kinda lame...how does it taste? I was at 8 oz recently and turned off to the BMs when I saw bottles of Tabasco-brand (i've had it, it sucks) BM mix lining the wall...turned me off right away..perhaps I will close my eyes and try the Bloody Murder one anyway..

I think (pretty sure) it's Michelada. Had one in Mexico and was way too much for me. It traditionally a concoction of beer, tomato, black pepper, salt, lime, worcestershire and hot sauce . There are a lot of variations and some would might even contain clamato as well. I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to cocktails so I much prefer the chelada which is beer with lime or lemon juice over ice, with a salt-rimmed glass. So refreshing on a hot day! Some brewers have started bottling the chelada style beer i.e. Miller Chill and Bud Light Lime, but they just aren't the same.

The bloody mary's at the News Cafe are good. They salt the rim with an interesting spice mixture, so don't use a straw.
P.S. A traditional mexican michilada has worcestershire, lime juice, a splash of hot sauce, and dried oregano, in a salted glass with ice and usually a mild beer. No tomato juice. A chilada, my preference when I'm having more than one, is just the lime juice, ice, beer, and salted rim. It perks up a beer, and keeps the second half cold on a hot day at the beach.

There are probably as many recipes for a michelada as there are for a bloody mary, and many that I've seen involve tomato juice. I'm not sure one is any more traditional than another. I've also typically seen it spelled "michelada" and "chelada".

I always thought chelada was beer, lime juice, and salt and michelada the aforementioned plus the Worcestershire/Maggi, hot sauce, etc. Whatever the case, the Michy-lada sounds promising.

That is the basic idea as between chelada and michelada, but - like with a Bloody Mary - the michelada in particular is often subject to variations (including tomato juice).

Have you tried Eos brunch yet? I was just cleaning up old emails and saw that they had a Sunday brunch special where $12 gets you bottomless bloody marys or mimosas, "brunch, comp valet, and access to their Sunday Refresher pool party." Not sure if that offer is still on (and it sounds sort of too good to be true).

Brunch not that great (at least time we went, but they admitted they didn't expect the number of people to show up that did. Funny, Opentable showed no availability the day prior so these people didn't just drop out of the sky). It has potential. Drinks were not bad considering they were bottomless.

I did the brunch and thought it was a GREAT value. The bottomless bloody mary/mimosa deal is what it's all about. Bloody Mary was lame though, but after four it didnt matter. They didnt even charge for the first drink. Highest price on that brunch menu was $14. I had old school eggs, potatoes and toast but hubby had an egg skillet dish which was pretty good.

I just moved to Miami almost 2 months ago and love food but there is nothing I love more than a great Bloody Mary. So far, the Bloody Mary that tops my list is at the River Oyster Bar in Brickell. Ask them to go light on the ice, as sometimes it gets too watered down. They also make an oyster shooter that is killer. I seriously recommend it, and let me know what you think.
