Baja Fresh in Montgomeryville

Couldn't run fast enough from this place when it first opened. It's amazing how loud the security alarm on the back door there is. One employee kept setting it off over and over during our first visit. apparently she needed to take a few fast smoke breaks. But my friend and I are trying to pick out a gym, and today we checked out LA Fitness and since Baja Fresh was nearby we tried it again. I liked the pork carnitas there and they had fresh cilantro and mango salsa at the fixins bar. The music was very bouncy and seemed to go nicely with the fast-paced book I was reading while I waited for my friend. The air conditioning was blasting and I was happy with what I got for the price. I might have to go back for further research tomorrow. The chips were decent but I don't know if I should try the guacamole. Why push my luck?

    1. The Jewish deli right in the little strip center there is a good option although not cheap.

Pumpernick's (the deli) is good...nice pickle bar. Otherwise you need to go to Huntingdon Valley to Ben and Irv's for anything resembling good deli. Iron Hill just down the road has good beer and passable food. Ooka just opened up on 309 as well. Otherwise it is a cuilinary wasteland full of chain restaurants on that stretch of 309.

          • While I haven't eaten at Baja Fresh since I moved here, the guac at the ones in LA was always fresh and flavorful, so I say give it a try.

Thanks Elvis! I'll do it. Actually I've been dying for a roast beef special and a chocolate egg cream from Pumpernik's, I loved that place in Miami and was delighted when it opened here. But money is tight right now and Baja Fresh is more in line with my budget. I could also check out Hot Breads in the same shopping center as Pumpernik's. I've heard good things about that place here on the Pa board.

That guac was tasty Elvis! And the steak fajitas came with a slice of lime so I could tinker with it if I wanted to. Thanks for suggesting that I try it.

                        Glad you liked it!

                    • had the fish tacos there recently and they were pretty decent.

Oooo. Haven't tried them yet. It almost seems as if they done hired a new manager or something. Nice to know things can change for the better. The service couldn't have been friendlier when I went on tuesday.

I got them with the soft flour instead of the crisp taco shell... thought the guac was a nice addition. the fish was very nicely cooked. :)

They have two type of fish tacos.. a breaded version, and a grilled version, though the latter may be only a temporaray addition. While it is not up to San Diego standards, they certainly are worth eating.

I forgot that! I had the grilled, it was yummy. :)

I'm glad my gym quest is leading me to try places I haven't been to for awhile. Alas, LA Fitness is not to be. Why they would be unpleasant to people they are trying to recruit is beyond me, but now it's time to look into the gym in Chalfont, which means I get to try the crabhouse in the same shopping center. Whee! I love being a chowhound! And now I'll just have to make a special trip to Baja Fresh. I gotta try the fish tacos. Both kinds. :)

Thanks juju! Swung by today for a fish taco and I was very happy. They even put a nice slice of ripe avocado on the taco. It was seared mahi mahi. My friend was delighted with his nachos with pork carnita. So glad I gave this place another chance.

so glad you enjoyed them! I wish i had a BF near work... would love fish tacos for lunch 2day. :)

My friend and I stopped tonight and I tried the fire roasted shrimp tacos. I was absolutely delighted. I got a crunchy fish taco too out of pure greed and couldn't finish my rice and beans. My friend was very happy with his steak tacos as well. The joint was jumping! Glad to see this place thriving even in the bad economy.
