Chinn Chinn in Mattawan, MI
Hello to all you southwest Michigan foodies. I'm embarassed to say that I've never been to Chinn Chinn in Mattawan. I hear nothing but great stuff about it, but I've also heard that it's "impossible" to get a table and that you have to order takeout hours ahead. Can anyone tell me if this is true? Are there any days/hours when it's easier to get in and get food? Can anyone tell me what the prices are like? The online menu doesn't have any pricing info....Dish it! Tell me what you love about the place! Thanks.
Wonderful!! Think asian fusion that has not gone too far from its roots. I have never had a bad meal there nor has anyone I have taken. Some of my favorites are the chicken curry and the mongolian beef. There is also a dish made entirely of mushrooms that I found very good even though I’m a meat lover. The Rangoons are the best I have ever had and must be made from scratch. The portion sizes are HUGE but you will not get away cheep the dinners are anywhere from $12-$18.
As for the small eating area and a long line, the rumors are true. You should get there no later than 5:30 during the week for dinner and 5:00 during the weekend. However rumor has it that they are currently expanding this eating area (we can only hope). I know lunches are done different than dinners but I have never been for lunch (too much of a hike during the lunch hour). If you think that you can get away from the wait by doing take-out, think again. Call no later than 11am to place an order for the time you want to pick it up, if you wait till 4 or 5 you will be told when you can pick it up (most likely 7:30pm or after).
Thanks! At least now I have an idea of the wait time, etc. A friend has also told me that if you get there the minute they open at lunchtime, it's easy to get a table. Since I'm freshly unemployed, maybe I'll have to scoot out there and try for lunch! thanks for the info, Hungry ladybug!
