San Diego - recs near Sea World/Mission Bay area

Hello, will be in SD for a week with family and staying near Sea World. Any recs that are also family friendly (toddler and baby in tow) near Sea World area. Will eat almost everything, looking for good sushi and seafood. Will drive for good eats too. Thanks.

If you happen to go to SeaWorld and you like barbecue, try the Calypso Bay Smokehouse for lunch or early dinner. The brisket, pork spareribs and baby back ribs, and chicken are smoked low and slow in the smokehouse behind the serving/dining area. It's not the equal of bbq I've had in Texas or Memphis, but it's surprisingly good (the sauce at the condiment counter is way too sweet, though). The brisket was best, followed closely by spareribs when we ate there a couple of months ago. And they have chicken tenders, hot dogs, and veggie wraps for non-bbq people.

Good call. I think this is a little known fact, but a rather reliable poster on this board pointed it out several months ago.

              So is Somalia.

              Excellent food there.

              Serve late.

              Strong drinks too.

I'd give Sushi Ota a shot if you like real sushi and the kids are very well behaved. It's crowded and it's hard to get a table and some people are uncomfortable with the service which tends to be Japan-centric.

Ranchos Cocina - all organic healthy style mexican food (so unbelievably delicious!!!) on Sunset Cliffs Blvd in Ocean Beach - good for family w/ kids

Saska's in on Mission Beach Blvd Mission Beach Steak, seafood and sushi - family friendly and good food.

I like Dining Diva's suggestion for Blue Water Grill :)

Also El Pescador on Pearl (in La Jolla) comprable to Blue Water though
and French Gourmet on La Jolla Blvd in Birdrock - small coastal town between La Jolla and Pacific Beach
              both are local favorites.

Skip Saska's, bad food worse service.

They serve "late" by san diego standards.

Two places relative close to Sea World (Ashton/Morena Blvd ) where I have seen kids/baby quite a lot are Da Nino's (not really an authentic italian but for a more americanized version not bad) and Bay Park Fish Co.

Blue Water Grill on India, close to Washington Blvd., just off the I-5. Great fish sandwiches, tacos, salads, plates. Also Point Loma Seafood in Point Loma. Lucha Libre is a fun taco shop on Washington near the I-5 not too far from Sea World.
