If by "whole shoulder" you're looking for the cut that includes the butt and the shank (i.e. the upper shoulder and the forearm sections), usually skin on - this is difficult to find at retail in L.A. Boston Butt you can find all day long. Smart & Final is a likely suspect, as is Costco. They're usually de-boned, two per cryovac package at Costco.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "whole". But if you are looking for a 5-8 lb. bone-in pork shoulder, commonly referred to as a "picnic shoulder", you can find that cut in just about any meat market or supermarket that caters to a Latino clientele. They should be available at Food 4 Less or ...

I bought a case of butts at Snf (Cash n Carry) last weekend, .99 per pound.

Talked to my local meat guy at Costco, they don't put them out but will sell you butts if you ask for them.

Lots of good butts out there!!!
