"Great American Seafood" place needed in Long Branch

Short notice. My friend from Boston wants "Great American Seafood" tonight. His brother is going to the beach at Long Branch today, we're meeting them later for dinner. I had initially picked out that new Greek place (Nick's).. everybody was happy with that choice until my wife said they wanted "American seafood" and I should lean toward their desires, not my own.

So, whatever. I need recommendations. In or near Long Branch. I had initially picked Nicks because: it was in Long Branch, got rave reviews from fellow Chowhounders, and had great seafood. Oh, and also because I did a little research and generally the consensus seems to be that most Long Branch area seafood restaurants suck.

So, any recommendations, please? I think we're headed to the Great Adventure safari and then lunch at Cheeburger, yet again. So I'll check the board after that. Thanks!

Oh. Casual fine. In fact, casual is better than formal. Alcohol not necessary. Ambiance not necessary. Just "Great American Seafood".. whatever that is. Fresh, not frozen, I guess. Shrug.

Rooney's looks nice, although the prices are what I'd call "outrageous", but I guess you pay for the view. Gregory's is no where near Long Branch, but thanks anyway. We did go to the Safari today, but we are meeting the other party in Long Branch.

It's not a far drive down Rt. 36 to Highlands where you can actually get good seafood at a place that also looks the part. Just sayin' ;o)

Thanks to all... we ended up going to Niko's after all. No one in our party of 5 was disappointed. :)
