Acorns Restaurant at the New England Center

Went to Acorns Restaurant at the New England Center in Durham recently after hearing this would be the last year they would be open. I Have never been there before and don’t think I would ever go again. Tried the pre-fixe menu and have to say that although it was quite affordable (19+ pp) the food was pretty average and the service lacking.

First tried the chipotle-bourbon braised beef short rib with sweet potato hash and, though tasty, found ¼ of the meat was fatty gristle. Next came chicken and rice soup (tasted like commercial out of a can) then tough pork chop then chocolate rum cake (tasted again not homemade and no rum flavor whatsoever).

I really think this place has seen it’s days in the sun and is now waiting to lie down and die. Quite sad.

Has anyone else been here recently or in better times??
