Ohh No! David Glass Desserts in Bloomfield is closing!

This is terrible! Here is the link to the article in today's Hartford Courant.

It will be missed. I sincerely hope they have the ability to reopen someday.

Billy Grant or the person behind the Max Group should grab this guy. They'd add a local name brand and keep the sweet stuff flowing.

That's a great idea. (The guy behind the Max Group is Richard Rosenthal).

I seem to recall that I read somewhere that it's actually David Glass's wife who has the recipes and does some of the execution.

It'd sure be quite a few steps down from having a large-scale commercial baking operation for Glass to take a job as a pastry chef somewhere -- even for a goup of restaurants.

I never got the hype. Overpriced frozen desserts. Local news this morning says that he is looking into opening a small retail location.
No big loss in my book.

I very, very rarely complain about what things cost. However, David Glass's desserts were a bit dear for what you get. I guess it's the New Yorker in me; used to getting great pastries at a lower price.

Here's the good news: as they say, "nature abhors a vacuum." David Glass's absence will leave a gaping hole in the gourmet scene up here in Connecticut. Someone's bound to jump in.

This result was pretty much assured when he started taking in investors, offering to pay them back in goods. I had heard a couple months ago that the operation was going to shut down, but hoped they might find a way out. Well, I guess it's off to Highland Park to find a chocolate truffle cake one last time and taste the end of an era with a nice glass of port to go along with it.
