Coffee slushie at Olympico??
Stopped in at Cafe Olympico this afternoon and got what I think was called an iced latte...which turned out to be a half-glass of sweetened coffee slush mixed with half a glass of milk. It was quite tasty and refreshing but...what was it? Has anyone else had this? We could see slush machines behind the counter - but I can't imagine they would be serving something made with coffee-flavoured syrup! Could they be making this stuff with good-quality coffee somehow?? Very curious.
AFAIK it's their usual espresso, sweetened before chilling.
Before they got the machines they'd make shot after shot during evening lulls, pour them into gallon jugs, add sugar and chill overnight in the bar fridge. (Once it's chilled, very little sugar will dissolve in it.)
Not sure exactly how they changed the process when they got the machines, but it tastes the same as before so it's safe to assume it's the same coffee.

they still take shots straight from the machine into the jugs. Instead of pouring the cold coffee straight in your glass, they put it in the granita machine.
(notice it is not slush. granita is more corse ice crystals.)
they used to make sweetened and unsweetened versions... and if you're an old regular and know what to say, you can still get it un-iced. (hurts my teeth that stuff. ;)
