Prune, Perilla - more like these please!

My wife and I are big fans of Prune and Perilla. Two restaurants that are somewhat casual, where the food is straightforward, delicious and always at the center of attention, and where you can keep a meal for two under $100 after drinks.

Since moving to New York last year we've generally been underwhelmed with some of the city's higher end options, feeling that the cost does not justify the meal. Aquavit, Aureole, even wd50 left us feeling like we'd over-spent on food that was tasty, but didn't really blow us away.

Can anyone recommend other restaurants in the city that are in the same vein as Prune and Perilla?
