In Fort Fairfield, practically on the border: Canterbury Royale, an old-world gourmet dining experience. Only two tables each night, so you need reservations. Six-course, haute French cuisine prepared by classically trained chefs (No, I'm not kidding you, this place really exists). Tables are set with crystal, china, candelabras. Dining room features wood carvings by one of the chefs. Quite the place. Last I checked, dinners were around $50 pp, might be more now.
